Award-winning singer breaks silence after police find a decomposing woman in his Tesla’s boot
Two brands have removed advertising with him out of ‘respect’
On Monday, police in Los Angeles, California, discovered a dead human body in a Tesla registered to Fortnite stan turned singer, D4vd.
D4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke, is an American singer who got his start by making video game montages of Fortnite. He launched his music career in a bid to avoid copyright claims, and just a few years later, he’s performed at Coachella, won a BMI Pop Award, and collaborated with the video game that sparked his viral career.
At 12.20 pm on September 8, the Los Angeles Police Department responded to reports of a “foul odour” in a vehicle in a tow yard. They discovered the decomposing body of a woman, but her identity has yet to be uncovered.
Though the LAPD told The Independent that “We do not have information on the owner of the vehicle”, law enforcement sources told The Los Angeles Times that it was registered to D4vd. The Tesla had reportedly been in the lot for a few days, with the body wrapped in a bag and placed in the front boot.
D4vd is currently in the midst of his Withered world tour, and has continued to perform and post on social media amidst the shocking story. His representative spoke to NBC, stating he “has been informed about what’s happened, and although he is still out on tour, he is fully cooperating with the authorities.”
As police investigate what is being treated as a homicide, Crocs and Hollister removed D4vd from their campaigns.
“We are aware of this developing story. With respect to the current situation, we have removed campaign content featuring D4vd while the investigation continues,” the brands said in a joint statement.

A second body was discovered, but it’s not related to D4vd’s Tesla
On the same day, the LAPD also discovered another body inside a Honda Civic that was logged as towed on August 25, the Los Angeles Times reported in the same article. Found at a different tow yard from D4vd’s Tesla, the female body is said to be connected to a missing person report and is considered a separate incident from the one in the Hollywood Hills.
