Here’s what’s going on with Lil Nas X right now, after he was arrested and hospitalised

A video was released of him erratically walking through the streets in his underwear

Last night, TMZ released a video of Grammy award winning singer Lil Nas X walking down the street in LA in just his underwear and acting erratically. The video was harrowing to watch, but more harrowing still was the news that Lil Nas X had been hospitalised on suspicion of an overdose – and also the confirmation that he’d been arrested after he “charged” at a police officer. Lil Nas X is of course best known for his big hit Old Town Road, which is one of the longest running number one singles in Billboard chart history – and his major label debut album Montero.

What the video showed

Police say officers encountered the 26-year-old rapper and singer on Ventura Boulevard in Studio City just before 6 a.m., according to spokesperson Charles Miller, who responded when LA police were pushed for confirmation of what had actually happened. Footage obtained by TMZ appears to show Lil Nas X dressed only in underwear and cowboy boots, telling officers he was on his way to a party. In the video, he can be seen relentlessly asking whoever’s filming the singer as he struts down the empty street in the early hours if they’re coming to a party or not.

The current developments

According to police spokesperson Charles Miller, the two-time Grammy winner, real name Montero Lamar Hill, was later arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor battery after allegedly charging at officers. The statement was reported by the Associated Press. Before being taken into custody, officers transported the rapper to a hospital over concerns of a possible drug overdose, Miller said. He was released after a few hours and then booked into jail.

Lil Nas X is now facing an additional misdemeanour charge for obstructing an officer and is currently being held at Valley Jail in Van Nuys, not far from where police first encountered him.

People were, wrongly, accusing the situation of being a ‘PR stunt’

In the replies to the video doing the rounds, so many people were accusing it all as being a stunt – but this is confirmed to not be the case. Lil Nas X has frequently done stunts to promote his album, and is apparently set to be releasing his new record Dreamboy later in 2025 – but this is genuine, he was arrested for real.

Previously this week, Lil Nas X had cleared his Instagram and it only has posts on there from the last two days. He also changed his name to Queen Madeline on the platform.
