Okay, here’s why Demi Lovato reuniting with the Jonas Brothers is such a huge deal

If your social media is anything like mine right now, you’ll be currently unable to move from a nostalgic onslaught of videos of Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers linking back up again to perform songs from the Camp Rock franchise for the first time in 10 years. Why is this a big deal? Not just because it’s a huge part of all of our childhoods and seeing the Camp Rock gang reunite singing the bangers gives us immeasurable joy – but because there are loads of rumours and lore surrounding the dynamics of the group when it comes to Demi Lovato and, specifically, Joe and Nick Jonas. Here’s why people are particularly freaking out over the fact Demi Lovato was close to the Jonas Brothers – cough Joe cough cough cough Nick – in their viral Camp Rock reunion.

Obviously, they were all super close because of Camp Rock

Camp Rock one and two were both huge successes for Disney Channel and made household names out of Nick, Joe and Kevin Jonas as the Jonas Brothers and of Demi Lovato. They all toured together as a group and then Demi Lovato revealed that after Camp Rock 2, her and Joe Jonas dated each other briefly but realised they were better as friends.

There are also rumours, that neither Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas have ever addressed directly or confirmed, that the pair of them also briefly had something together.

Wait, what? 

Demi Lovato unfollowed Nick Jonas in 2018. Before the Jonas Brothers Camp Rock medley linkup that’s gone viral this year, Demi Lovato was clocked following Nick again.

It was previously rumoured that the pair of them had beef. It’s also heavily rumoured that Demi Lovato’s song Ruin The Friendship is about Nick.

In 2017 when the song came out, she said to Noisey that it was about “a certain situation” and that she was “ballsy” for sending it to the person involved before it came out. She explained “The person knew about my feelings, but neither of us had ever acknowledged it before.”

She then also never attended Nick Jonas’ wedding to Priyanka Chopra, which everyone interpreted as a major fallout considering the pair were obviously so close and had been through so much together.

Because of the history rumours people were so shocked that Demi Lovato was performing alongside Nick Jonas and Joe too – but the Jonas Brothers star actually posted a really touching post on his Instagram about the situation including a pic of him hugging Demi.

Nick said on Instagram: “Can’t put into words what last night meant to me and my family. Growing up down the street from this iconic venue and having the chance to play to a sold-out crowd of 52k people was truly a dream come true.” Nick didn’t tag Demi directly, but he added, “Not to mention the special guests who were gracious enough to give incredible performances that signified the journey we’ve been on over these past 20 years. My heart is full.

“It’s going to probably take me a few days, maybe weeks to fully unpack what happened on August 10, 2025, but I’ll tell you one thing for sure — I can’t wait to get back on stage tomorrow night in Bristow and continue this celebration of life, family, and music.”
