‘I empathise with Helena’: What Shakira’s mum really thinks of Harry after Love Island meet
She posted a TikTok all about him, and the secret convo she had with Helena
With the return of Love Island’s iconic meet the family segment, Shakira’s mum, Sukina, was finally able to meet the lad her daughter’s smitten with, Harry Cooksley.
Though he did spend most of the show attached to Helena, Harry is now loved-up with Shakira in the run-up to the Love Island finale next week. Harry came face-to-face with Shakira’s mum and sister after they’d watched him from home, with Sukina telling him, “We’re not hugging Harry” as he approached for an embrace.
“I adore him and I really wish I didn’t, that’s the problem. It would be easier if I hated him, but I don’t,” Shakira told her mum and sister, with the former responding, “What I will say, with him, he can prove himself to you before he has to prove himself to me.”

After returning to the UK, Shakira’s mum dove headfirst into her experience of meeting Harry in the 2025 Love Island villa.
“It’s becoming apparent that there are genuine feelings there. I do think that Harry is a different person with Shakira, always,” she explained. “It’s not that he gets boring or quietens down – because I’m pretty sure they have a laugh together. But he does bring out a deeper and more intense side of him. I do empathise with Helena. You didn’t see it but I did speak to Helena and I did express that I hope she’s ok.”
Though Sukina doesn’t regret the “frostiness” she showed Harry during her Love Island apperence, “there was absolutely no way I was going to march in there and demand that she ends it.”

Despite Harry’s placement as a very controversial Islander, most of the people in Sukina’s comments were very much behind his relationship with Shakira.

One person wrote: “Guys, please vote for Harry and Shakira, they were meant to be. Let’s give them the weeks they lost back.”
“Shakira makes Harry a better person; he’s done her wrong, but there’s something about him she can’t let go of. I hope he’s good to her,” another said.
Shakira’s mum thinks the feelings are genuine, but I guess only time will tell.
