Erm, Matty Healy’s mum Denise Welch just dragged Taylor Swift and it’s actually brutal
‘Being her mother in law is a role I’m glad I lost’
In the most random turn of events in pop culture history, Denise Welch was just on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Bravo. I don’t actually know why on earth Denise Welch was on WWHL and why she’s cracked the American TV circuit, but she’s such an icon I’m going to have to just accept that stranger things have happened. There was a period where Denise Welch was the potential mother in law of Taylor Swift – when Swift controversially dated Matty Healy from the 1975 for a short term period. That short term period did however produce a very savage (and, if we’re getting into it, quite sh*te) album and now Denise Welch just dragged Taylor Swift with a brutal quote on TV that’s instantly gone viral.
And royally pissed off Swifties, which is always absolutely delicious.
Denise didn’t hold back, of course

Denise Welch dragged Taylor Swift on WWHL when Andy Cohen asked her the following: “Denise, your son is the great Matty Healy. On that topic, Ms Swift wrote a whole album about their relationship – The Tortured Poets Department. What was your reaction to that album?”

Denise didn’t hold back, and said “Obviously on pain of death can I talk about that episode, but not being her mother in law is a role that I’m glad that I lost. Nothing against her at all – it was tricky. Listen. You’re not allowed to say anything and then she writes a whole album about it. Matty has taken it all with good grace and he’s very happy with his fiancée Gabbriette who is gorgeous. We’ve moved on.”
The Swifties on Twitter are fuming about it, and are saying that Denise Welch is acting in bad faith saying anything remotely negative about Taylor. Which they would say. I would hate to be Denise’s DMs right now. For more like this, like The Tab on Facebook.
