Addison Rae reveals the real reason she’s decided to change her stage name
The name that made her TikTok famous will be a thing of the past
It’s hard to think of any rebrand in recent years as successful as that of Addison Rae, who has triumphantly pulled off a transition from corny TikTok creator who everyone rolled their eyes at to genuinely respected pop auteur. When Addison Rae first started to make music in 2021, she was dragged for how vapid it felt. But after the years passed and unreleased music started to seep onto the internet, the tides shifted. Thanks to an acclaimed co-sign from forever it girl Charli XCX, Addison became hot property. After the success of her album’s lead single Diet Pepsi last year, what followed was a string of equally brilliant singles resulting in her debut album – the self titled Addison. And with the birth of her first baby album, dubbed “The first and last album by Addison Rae” in its liner notes, she has revealed the real reason for her name change going forward.
Addison Rae, as we know her, is gone
The rebirth of Addison Rae with her new album has changed her in the minds of the public, and she wants a change to reflect that. From this point forward, the Rae will be booted off and she will be known mononymously as Addison. And when you’ve channeled Madonna so thoroughly with all the Ray of Light call backs on her new album, why not follow suit with the queen of pop?

“I said it in an interview, I was just like, ‘Oh, I think I’ve grown past being called Addison Rae’,” Addison recalled in the hour-long appearance on Feeding Starving Celebrites. “Then the album being named Addison kind of was a tie-in for that.
Addison further clarified “Whoever knows me as Addison Rae and knew me as Addison Rae will always know me as that.” She also joked about how she’s over having to fully sign Addison Rae when giving fans signatures on records and merch, saying “I just am really tired of signing ‘Addison Rae’. It’s really long, and I would just rather sign ‘Addison’.”
She has basically explained that as she successfully transitions from TikTok creator of silly little viral dances to genuinely serious and passionate musician – with an encyclopaedic knowledge of pop and its history – that she’s outgrown the Addison Rae we once knew. Going by Addison separates her latest art from the former she’s moving on from.
All hail Addison, with her recent changed name and the distinct lack of Rae! And stream the album of the year!
