The bizarre and unexpected list of the 10 most streamed songs in Spotify history
Abysmal that it’s 2025 and there’s not a single female artist
I know it feels weird to say so, but we’re half way through 2025. It’s going too fast, but in 2025 the Spotify all-time streaming leaderboard is looking a bit different and a lot more chaotic than it did a few years ago. Some of the usual suspects are still hanging on for dear life, but there’s been a real shake up at the top. Yes, the songs you screamed at pre-drinks in 2019 are still clinging on, but a few newer bangers have barged their way into the all time greats, and we’re kind of here for it. Here’s your run down of what the most streamed songs on Spotify look like in 2025.
From the viral ones you love to the hell ones you swore you’d never stream (but secretly did), these are officially the most streamed songs ever on Spotify as the list stands in 2025. Get ready for some surprises, a couple of “of course it’s here” moments, and maybe even your entire personality from three summers ago. Let’s get into it.
10. Perfect by Ed Sheeran – 3.5 billion streams
The song that made a billion straight weddings all the more boring, I fear. One of two Ed Sheeran appearances on the ranking and to be honest, it’s to be expected. His mass appeal has always been his ticket to big commercial success and the streaming numbers clearly reflect that. It was released in September 2017.
9. Stay by The Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber – 3.6 billion streams
Most Read
The 2021 mega hit was instrumental in The Kid Laroi becoming a household name. It’s still dismal though, if we’re being real. Justin Bieber has so many bangers that deserve to give him a slot in the top 10 over this tripe.
8. One Dance by Drake, Wizkid and Kyla – 3.7 billion streams
Released back in the spring of 2016, One Dance is the second oldest song on the entire list – and it’s honestly more impressive to me when older songs have cracked this top 10 before the height of streaming really dominated. Stable success! It’s clearly one of the best Drake songs ever so, fair play. Banger.
7. Sweater Weather by The Neighbourhood – 3.8 billion streams
A curious case of TikTok success here. The song is the oldest on the top 10, a soft rock song from 2012. Not the usual suspect to make this kind of list, but thanks to the power of it going viral in November 2020 Sweater Weather’s fate was sealed. It gained five million streams in November 2020 alone, and it has never stopped.
6. Sunflower by Post Malone and Swae Lee – 3.8 billion streams
The 2018 soundtrack single was a megahit for Post Malone and Swae Lee and it has never slowed down in its absolute force of nature streaming abilities. It is catchy, fair play.
5. As It Was by Harry Styles – 3.9 billion streams
The best song on this list, hands down period. Okay, maybe number one kinda takes it, but still. Worthy second place best in my opinion, and glad it cracked the top five of the most streamed songs on Spotify in 2025. No women here but this is the next best thing. It’s also the most recent song to be released that made the top 10, so I imagine it will continue to climb.
4. Someone You Loved by Lewis Capaldi – 3.9 billion streams
You know it, you love it, you’ve cried over it – Someone You Loved was inescapable when it dropped in 2018. In fact, that song has been so all encompassing with its success I actually thought it came out in 2020 or something. It never wavers.
3. Starboy by The Weeknd and Daft Punk – 3.9 billion streams
Okay I was overzealous when I crowned As It Was the second best because this might actually take it. Two absolute kings linking up and making one of the biggest bangers ever? Oh hell yeah.
2. Shape Of You by Ed Sheeran – 4.4 billion streams
The second Ed Sheeran feature on this rundown and one of only two songs in the history of Spotify to break into the four billion bracket. Some achievement, and no shocks from me anywhere that Shape Of You managed it. The ubiquitous nature of Shape Of You when I was in my third year of uni in 2017 (yes I’m old) was something to truly behold. A song that for better or for worse has defined my 20s. Still would have been better if Rihanna recorded it.
1. Blinding Lights by The Weeknd – 4.8 billion streams
The most streamed of all songs on Spotify ever is, in 2025, The Weeknd with Blinding Lights. First released in 2019 at the very end of that decade, it dominated lockdown and will probably be the first song to ever hit five billion. Crazy, and very much well deserved. Unlike Shape Of You, I’ve never felt fatigue with Blinding Lights – its synth pop brilliance inspiring as many less good impersonation attempts as it has Spotify streams.
Personally, I’m streaming the Rosalía feature instead. But I’m quirky! Not everybody has that, unfortunately.
