Here’s what type of Sheffield student you are based on your favourite 2024 album
Did anyone actually listen to Cowboy Carter or were we all just pretending?
2024 was truly a year for music lovers, and while music taste is subjective, do not think you are safe from being judged. In fact some of you crave the attention, whenever you share a song on your Instagram Story or your notes, hoping that a certain someone will respond to tell you how unique and intricate your music taste is. We’re here to tell you that it isn’t.
And if you listened to Conan Gray’s new album – please stop crying over your situationship in the Diamond toilets, it’s starting to get concerning.
The Tortured Poets Department
If you are a TTPD listener, then you study English literature at uni, I don’t make the rules. You’re the type of person to complain about not having studied enough to then end up with a First every single time, and the one time you don’t get that grade? tears.
Most importantly, you’re an “aesthetic” student. Everything is colour coded in pastel highlighters, from passages in your Norton Anthologies to your notes sporting cursive titles written in calligraphy pens. You take aesthetic photos of have definitely tried to film a “study with me” vlog from your usual spot Western Bank overlooking the park, while wearing your dark academia clothing (whatever that means).
The only thing distracting you from the fact that you have no idea what you will do with your degree once you graduate, is your romanticisation of academia. At least you have a hobby, right?
Brat
The only time we will ever see you on campus during day time will be at graduation. You’re not here to learn, you are here to party, something you have made obvious from the get go. It’s a wonder you’ve made it this far in your degree.

You are also the type of person to get a part time job at Corp and then be surprised when working at corp and going to corp for a night out are two completely different experiences. Still, you keep up the energy, like Charli XCX in her chaotic pop anthems – unbothered, unapologetic, and always living in the moment.
Short n’ Sweet
If your favourite album from 2024 is Short n’ Sweet, then you are definitely a psychology student. The double entendres found in each of Sabrina Carpenter’s lines and the catchy tunes are best appreciated by someone studying psychology.
You are an ordinary student. Average grades, average life, you do exactly what is expected from you, no more no less. You have a decent group of friends but no one you are super close with. You are part of a society but not on the committee. You go to class regularly but won’t shy away from skipping a few lectures here and there for mental health days or just because. Overall, you have a normal life and are on track to keep on having one.
Charm
Charm by Clairo does have that laid-back, introspective vibe, doesn’t it? If you love this one, you are most likely quiet, reserved. While you tend to get along with most people and have a few course mates, you are mostly found by yourself, appreciating your own company.
You tend to leave campus the moment class is over, preferring the comfort of your own home over the crowded libraries and study spaces at uni.If charm was your favourite 2024 album, then I see you studying biological sciences, with a focus on ecology. It could just be the earthy vibes of this album, but if the shoe fits…
Hit me Hard and Soft
You, like this album, are everywhere. Go out clubbing? We’ll run into you. A lecture? You’re sitting in front row. Lunch time at the Jessop West Cafe? You’re there with your friends grabbing coffee. The open day? Once again you, wearing a bright purple T-shirt sporting the words ‘student ambassador’ in bold white letters.
Just like Miss Eilish, you are an overachiever, and you excel at it, maintaining a good balance between working, studying, social life and who knows what else. You’re the type of person that was coming up with ten year plans in your infancy. But even then, there is always someone who in the end does better than you, and while you smile and lie that you don’t care, we know that deep down, it drives you crazy.
