Inside Jamie Marinos and Awhina Rutene’s super wholesome friendship from MAFS Australia

I hate to break it to you, but barely any MAFS Australia 2025 couples worked out. However, one MAFS Australia relationship is going particularly strong: the wholesome friendship between Awhina Rutene and Jamie Marinos. Here’s a look inside their friendship.

*Spoiler alert* Jamie has rather a rough time during the couples’ retreat. But Awhina completely had her back.

Jamie told Daily Mail Australia: “Awhina actually scolded the whole group for not sticking up for me. She’s such a genuine friend. I was so distraught I couldn’t even leave my room, and Jacqui, Adrian and Awhina all visited me.”

Who asked Jamie and Awhina if they’d ever repeat their MAFS experiences. Awhina replied: “No, but  if I had to deal with Adrian again for three months to get Jamie, I’d do it.”

Jamie responded: “Awhina said if she gets to meet me again, she’d say yes, absolutely—if we got to leave with each other.”

She continued, “I’ll always be proud of how I rallied for my friends. That had a real impact, and I’ve gained some lifelong connections. But Awhina is the best thing I got from this experience.”

In February, Jamie and Awhina were reunited in Melbourne. They celebrated Rhi’s birthday along with Katie.

The duo were reunited in Sydney last week ahead of the MAFS reunion airing. As soon as Jamie and Awhina flew in from Melbourne and Perth, they rushed to meet each each other at the airport. Aw. Last week, they went to a Dua Lipa concert together.

A source told the Daily Mail Australia: “Jamie and Awhina became inseparable after filming. They’re genuinely best friends and had been counting down to this night for weeks.”

Awhina said at a reunion party hosted by the Daily Mail: “There were times in the experiment where I did feel like I had nobody, but I always had Jamie. She never fumbled.” Awhina held Jamie’s hand. “I didn’t leave with a husband, but I left with a wife.”

Jamie said, “We love the girl power”. She called Awhina and Beth her “wives”.
