Debunked: No, Apple isn’t adding pop star emojis in the next iOS update

Too many people online are believing this is real

There’s a tweet doing the rounds right now on X that too many people are falling for, and at first glance you can kind of tell why it’s going viral. It claims that Apple are about to launch an update to their iOS which would bring a load of pop star emojis into the fold for you to use when typing away on your iPhone, but despite the fact the entirety of Twitter seems to think it’s legitimate here’s why this entire viral saga of pop star emojis arriving is just nonsense.

Wait, what emojis?

In a tweet posted from Drop Pop on X, the account announced “Apple teases new emojis of female artists for the upcoming iOS 18.5 update.” The emojis in question seem to represent Lana Del Rey, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Iggy Azalea, Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande.

I think the first red flag to this being a lot of nonsense should be the fact that Apple would be bringing an emoji out of Iggy Azalea. Sure she has some bop, but let’s get real.

The tweet is from a parody account, guys

Drop Pop, who operate under the @DropPopNet handle on Twitter / X, is actually a parody Twitter account proudly sharing fake news in the same vein as PopCrave and PopBase – except it’s lies. It’s basically a more subtle Poo_Crave. Drop Pop used to clearly have the fact it was a parody account in its Twitter bio, but now you have to look a bit closer and click the about account section to see that it’s a parody / satire profile.

Because of this, and maybe because everyone loves the idea of being able to text an emoji out of Iggy Azalea and feel nostalgic for her infamous freestyle, it’s gone viral and loads of people believe it. But it’s not true! Apple are not bringing any pop star emojis to iOs or iPhone.
