‘A lovely human’: Adolescence creator reveals the extent of Brad Pitt’s ‘hands-on’ role
He was ‘so engaged throughout the process’
We finally know a little bit more information about Brad Pitt’s role in Netflix’s Adolescence after people spotted his name in the credits and assumed it was some other random dude.
Adolescence boasts a pretty stacked cast that is obviously helmed by the legend Stephen Graham. Top Boy’s Ashley Walters, The Crown’s Erin Doherty, and newcomer Owen Cooper also star, but people also noticed a huge Hollywood name in the credits – THEE Brad Pitt.
“I cannot stress enough how relevant Adolescence is… but is it just me who was shocked seeing Brad Pitt credited as a producer in the series?” one person said on Twitter.
“Did anyone else notice that Brad Pitt is an executive producer on #Adolescence?” another said.
Adolescence director Philip Barantini earlier said, “Brad was on the phone with us, and he was so enthusiastic,” but little information was revealed about his actual role until now.

Many actors own their own production companies as a way of streamlining their finances and ensuring work is always available. For Brad Pitt, that’s Plan B Entertainment, which he founded in 2001. Over the years, the company has sparked projects such as Troy, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, World War Z, Beetlejuice, and a dozen other really recognisable TV shows and films.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5, writer Jack Thorne explained how the partnership came to be because of director Philip Barantini’s earlier project with Stephen Graham, Boiling Point. Brad Pitt reportedly loved it and pitched doing the iconic one-take approach for TV. Before he knew it, Adolescence was born.
“There was a call I was on where I was the first person on the Zoom because I’m always prompt,” Jack recalled. “The second person on the Zoom was him [Brad Pitt], and he’s so unbelievably handsome. It’s not just that he’s incredibly famous, it’s like this really, really handsome man comes on and I’m sort of sat there shocked.”
In an interview with The Rest is Entertainment podcast, Philip Barantini further revealed the extent of Brad Pitt’s inclusion, stating: “When we were pitching to Plan B, they kept saying, ‘We’re just waiting for Brad’s schedule.’ I thought, ‘It can’t be that Brad.’ But sure enough, there he was on the Zoom — such a lovely human being and a remarkably hands-on producer.
“He gave feedback, shared ideas, and was so engaged throughout the process. He couldn’t visit the shoot because of his F1 project, but having someone like Brad Pitt involved — and so invested — was incredible. And he’s, yeah, I mean, I’d love to work with him again.”
