New details emerge about tragic death of Aubrey Plaza’s husband Jeff Baena

The filmmaker Jeff Baena – and husband of Aubrey Plaza – sadly died by suicide on 3rd January. New information has come out about the investigation into his tragic death. Here’s what we know.

The couple were in a relationship since 2011. They got married in a private, spontaneous ceremony in their garden in 2021.

A summary of a medical report seen by Us Weekly said: “He was experiencing recent marital difficulties and was separated from his wife since September 2024.”

A medical examiner’s report seen by People said that in October 2024, Jeff Baena made “concerning remarks” to Aubrey Plaza. This “prompted her to call a friend to perform a welfare check on her husband”.

A dog walker found his body

Jeff Baena texted Aubrey Plaza at 10:36am on 3rd January. His dog walker found him at his home in Los Angeles. He was 47 years old.

A spokesperson for Aubrey Plaza told Us in January: “This is an unimaginable tragedy. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time.”

Aubrey Plaza has not publicly spoken about Jeff Baena’s death. She made her first public appearance at SNL50: The Anniversary Special.

She wore a tie dye t-shirt, seemingly as a tribute to Jeff Baena. He enjoyed dying clothes during lockdown. He and Aubrey Plaza got married in tie-dye pyjamas.
