‘She was quick to judge’: Love Is Blind’s Monica reveals hidden chats with controversial sister

She described her sister as a ‘dragon protecting the princess’

Monica Danús has revealed the state of her relationship with sister Nicolle after a tense confrontation in Love Is Blind left people speculating.

In last week’s batch of Love Is Blind season eight episodes, Joey headed to Monica’s house to meet her family. After a cheesy family sing-song, with Joey naturally on the tambourine, Monica’s sister pulled her for a chat. She wasn’t keen on her sister’s impending marriage to Joey, listing reasons ranging from Joey being calculated to her being the older sister and needing to get married first.

Nicolle quickly became a hot topic on Twitter and Reddit, but considering the episodes were left on a huge cliffhanger, many were left wondering about the state of Joey’s relationship with Monica and her sister.

Monica noticed the controversy after the Love Is Blind episodes dropped

Appearing on the Love in Reality Podcast this week, Monica acknowledged her sister’s statements are a massive topic “especially online.”

“I would be lying if I said it wasn’t hard to see, that’s my sister, that’s family. I love her to death. She’s been my best friend my whole life,” she said.

Starting at the beginning, Monica said it was “tough” to watch the moment in episode eight of the Netflix show because “she’s very blunt, she says things as they are.”

“It wasn’t that big of a shock to me to know that she was going to push back on something. And I will say her concerns were valid. Like any other loving family member, I would be a little concerned if nobody was asking these questions,” she explained. “Was her delivery great? No. But knowing her, truly knowing her, it came out of love. It truly did.”

Having had difficult relationships in the past that required Nicolle to build her back up, Monica said that her sister is “very protective” of her emotional well-being.

She continued: “That being said, it wasn’t easy because I have a connection with this person and I’m taking this very seriously. I want my loved ones to love this person and at the very least be open-minded to it. In that moment she was quick to judge and that was a split-second reaction from her.

“We did have a lot of conversations off-camera between the two of us. Very deep conversations, not even about Joey, but about our own boundaries, our own relationships. Knowing that it was very hard to watch and hard to live through but it did result in really good things because our bond is stronger.”

Joey also appeared on the podcast this week, though notably, it looked like their appearances were separate. Is this a hint that the couple didn’t get married? I really hope not.

Speaking about the moment, he explained: “Yeah, that was a little bit tough for me. For me, Monica and I connected super well in the pods about our sisters because I am very very close with my sisters and I consider them my best friends and we talk almost every single day. Monica kinda described her situation the same when she’s like ‘My sister is my best friend’ and so we really bonded on that.”
