Okay, here’s why you can’t escape Docechii’s viral unreleased song Anxiety on TikTok rn

There’s a reason the ‘addictive’ beat is so familiar

We haven’t seen a rise like Doechii’s since Jesus Christ himself, and now, following the viral TikTok sound of her unreleased song Anxiety, people are calling for her to release it on Apple Music and Spotify.

Early in February, TikTok user Franklin Saint posted a clip of a young Doechii singing the song alongside the caption: “This what it looks like when you allow yourself to shine regardless of whose watching.”

It has since gone positively viral, amassing 7.5 million views, 1.3 million likes, and over 40k videos using the sound. It even has it’s own TikTok dance inspired by the The Fresh Prince of Bel Air which is how you know something is really taking off.

It’s reasonable to say people are absolutely obsessed, as one person explained: “I need this on Spotify NEOOOWWW.”

“The original version of this song doesn’t need to exist anymore…I want this,” another said, while a third added, “And she only has 1 Grammy? That doesn’t feel like nearly enough.”

The song has created a lot of confusion, in part due to the eerily familiar nature of the tune, so here’s everything we know and whether it’s set for a streaming release in the near future.

Where is the Doechii’s viral Anxiety actually from?

To understand where the viral TikTok sound comes from, we must journey back to 2019 before Doechii was the worldwide sensation she is now. On her little-known YouTube account which only has 11k subscribers, she posted the 4-minute version of the song that she recorded in what looked to be her bedroom.

Doechii was 21 at the time and living in New York City, according to thrifting videos she posted on the same account.

There’s a reason why the backing track sounds so familiar

People on TikTok are heavily debating the track because the beat is so familiar. There’s a good reason for that and it’s because Doechii used the backing of Gotye’s Somebody That I Used To Know.

Other people have recognised the tune from Sleepy Hallow’s Anxiety which uses both a sample of Somebody That I Used To Know and Doechii’s chrous and intro. The song was released in 2023 four years after Doechii posted the above video.

For that reason it’s not looking like Doechii’s full track will be heading to Spotify and Apple Music anytime soon. Presumably, Sleepy Hallow owns the rights but never say never as stranger things have happened. If enough interest is drummed up a deal could be struck, but in the meantime, just play it on repeat on YouTube.
