Rihanna’s rejoicing! Everything that went down in court during A$AP Rocky’s gun assault trial
He’s just been found not guilty
A$AP Rocky has just been found not guilty after being accused of assault with a firearm by another rapper, and his deemed innocence has been much cause for celebration for him and Rihanna. The video of the courtroom erupting in celebration after A$AP Rocky was found not guilty of assault with a gun is everywhere, but if you’re anything like me you might not have seen much information about what actually went down during the trial and what it was all about. I’d seen a couple of videos of Rihanna leaving court, but here’s a quick rundown of the trial and what it was all about in the first place.
A$AP Rocky VS A$AP Relli
Fellow rapper A$AP Relli accused Rocky of shooting him in Hollywood in 2021. The two had an altercation that year, and if Rocky was found guilty he’d have been in prison for likely decades. The jury found A$AP Rocky innocent of two felony charges of firearm assault yesterday.
The trial
The trial began on January 24th, where A$AP Rocky (real name Rakim Athelston Mayers) turned down plea and declared innocence. Rihann a was in attendance for closing statements with the pair’s two toddlers. Joe Tacopina represented A$AP Rocky – whose other famous clients include Donald Trump. The defence’s main stance was the gun that Rocky shot was a prop gun taken from a music video set.
Tacopina played to the court recorded phone calls and messages where A$AP Relli claims he’s going to take Rocky for millions in court – which Relli claimed had been faked. Relli’s team said he wants justice because he was the victim of a real crime with a real gun – where the shots were said to have grazed his knuckles.

The two A$APs were both friends previously and part of the A$AP mob, but by the 2021 altercation in Hollywood this was no longer the case.
Relli claimed he believed the gun was real and that Rocky pointed it at him. “He turned around and then it was like, boom!” Relli said. “The whole thing was like a movie, he kind of like pointed down and he shot the first shot.” A fellow member of the A$AP mob, Twelvyy, testified in defence of Rocky and said that everyone present was well aware the gun was a prop gun.
The aftermath
When the jury announced the verdict ending the trial, A$AP Rocky thanked them for the not guilty result and said “Thank y’all for saving my life.” He dove into the stands and embraced Rihanna.
Rihanna posted on Instagram stories after the trial “The glory belongs to God and God alone! Thankful, humbled by his mercy!”
