What actually is The Board? This compelling theory seems to crack huge Severance mystery

I needed these answers

As a viewer of Severance, you can’t help but get sucked in by it. After each episode you’re left more questions than answers, and the countless theories might seem ridiculous, but you believe every single one of them. One of the biggest mysteries Severance has given us is what the hell The Board actually is – and there are theories about this too.

Since day one the show has never let us really know who runs things at Lumon. The severed floor seems to get all of its demands from a body referred to as “The Board”. In your mind you might picture a group of wealthy corporate men sitting on the Lumon Industries Board, but all we can do is imagine.

The Board is shown through a speaker, and Natalie wears a headset to speak to it. Natalie is the face of The Board, but that’s all we know.

Is The Board a thing? A set of people? WHO is it? WHAT is it? Here’s what the most compelling theory has to say.

Ok, there’s a big theory about what The Board in Severance might actually be

Many people have theorised what The Board might be. The biggest theory is that the Severance Board is actually not a group of people at all. But instead an AI created mind, using a mix of all of Lumon’s former CEOs. The goal of Lumon, and The Board, is to resurrect Kier Eagan.

If you want to take that theory even further, people think The Board might not be a group of people. It is instead just straight up an AI version of Kier Eagen. Either way, we never see The Board because it’s not a person, or people, it’s completely computerised.

One person on Reddit said: “Theory: The board is a computer generated/integrated version of Kier’s mind. MDR exists to make refined brains and memories with the goal of reincarnating Kier into a youthful body perpetually so they can be immortal.”

I believe!
