There Are Murders: Is the harrowing Netflix show based on a true story?
The series is already in the Netflix top 10
There Are Murders is the brand new Scandinavian crime show on Netflix, just in case you didn’t get your fill with The Breakthrough earlier this month. Like The Breakthrough, you might be wondering if There Are Murders is also based on a true story.
The plot centres around a young police officer named Hannah Ahlander, who has been suspended from her job and broken up with by her partner. She decides to leave Stockholm and go and stay at her sister’s holiday home in Åre, a small and beautiful town where the story takes place.
Of course, like any crime drama, a young woman goes missing and the suspended officer just can’t NOT take the bait. She starts investigating the situation and helping out the local understaffed police station. But who can she really trust? Dun dun dun!

Is There Are Murders based on a true story?
Interstingly, There Are Murders isn’t based on a true story, but instead a series of two books by a bestselling Swedish author, Viveca Sten. The books are called Hidden in Snow and Hidden in the Shadows.
If you noticed, the episodes are also split into two parts with the first being called Hidden in Snow, and the second part being called Hidden in the Shadows. This is a nod to the original book series that the show is based on and is a great guide if you’re reading along.

There Are Murders has already made it onto the Netflix top 10, and is currently sitting in third place behind The Night Agent and Celebrity Bear Hunt. It’s unlikely it will get any additional episodes seeing as the book series has been finished by Netflix, but you never know when it comes to popular Netflix shows! We’ve all got our fingers crossed.
There Are Murders is available on Netflix now. For all the latest Netflix news, drops, quizzes and memes like The Holy Church of Netflix on Facebook.
