These are officially the best Russell Group unis to study each subject at in 2025

Times Higher Education has released new rankings of universities across the world for different uni subjects. Loads of UK unis ranked really highly (yay!). So, here are the highest-ranked Russell Group unis for each subject on Times Higher Education’s World University Rankings by Subject 2025. Believe it or not, Oxbridge didn’t come first for everything. You can see where the best place is to study your course, and despair that you didn’t get in.

The University of Cambridge is apparently the best Russell Group uni for 14 subjects, while the University of Oxford is only the best UK uni for 11 subjects. I’m taking this as scientific evidence that Cambridge students are cleverer than Oxford students.

University College London (UCL) ranked in the top three for each subject a whopping 12 times. It scored particularly highly for arts and humanities subjects. Slay.

So, here are the best three Russell Group unis to study each subject at in 2025, according to Times Higher Education.
