Five things to do as a Cardiff student that are easier than exam revision

In this stressful time, sometimes you need a helpful and easy break to get your mind better able for studying


January can be an undeniably depressing time, exams are in full swing and dissertations are getting written.

So, sometimes you need a break from all your work with easy ways to distract yourself, I know I do.

Well, if you’re feeling that way, then here’s a list you can follow to hopefully make your exam season more enjoyable.

Go for a walk in Bute

Even though it is the middle of winter, going on a walk will not only help you stimulate your brain and therefore allow you to  work better but it is also a healthy alternative to mindlessly scrolling on TikTok. Besides no one said your walk isn’t allowed to end in the pub.

Find a new study spot

This technically counts as studying, right? Whether it is a coffee shop or  a new nook in the ASSL, you need to find a spot that suits you.

Having the perfect study space will allow your brain to produce better work and can sometimes even get you excited about revision. Okay, maybe “excited” is a stretch, but you get me.

Clean your room

Although sometimes argued as the best task for procrastination, cleaning your room is still a productive and easy way to make you feel as if your life is a bit more organised. Plus, if you work best in your room then having it clean is like resetting your brain.

This is an easy task to distract you from the build of work you inevitably have at least you have accomplished something by the end of it.

Go to your local

Ok, so not as practical, but still very important. Surrounding yourself with friends is a must when you are in a deep pit of revision despair. It doesn’t have to be the pub but anywhere that you switch off from studies and spend time with your friends is vital for your January mental health.

Spoil yourself

Whether this is buying a new piece of clothing to get you excited about post-exam season, or getting a roast as break from cooking, treating yourself is important when you are under increased stress. Even buying a muffin en route to the library can boost your serotonin. Any excuse for a sweet treat.
