Cardiff students: Here are the best libraries and study spots for the January exam season
Some places to help make studying feel more like a Pinterest board than a chore
As magical as the lovely arts and social sciences library is, sometimes it doesn’t quite cut it to get those flashcards written and our creative juices following.
Cardiff students, you are lucky enough to live in a city full of Pinterest-worthy study spots that we think are a little more inspiring than the regular haunts, so here are a few of The Cardiff Tab’s top suggestions.
Coffee Barker
Situated in the heart of the Castle Arcade, Coffee Barker elicits the perfect amount of Rory Gilmore study energy – making it the ultimate cosy study spot.
It has good Wifi, giant snuggly leather chairs, and probably the best luxury hot choc that Cardiff has to offer. Also, there’s the bonus of being attached to Rum and Fizz, so if that studying gets a tad too much there’s always the option of cheeky cocktail next door.
John Lewis Café
While it seems like a rogue one, John Lewis Café is an ideal change of scenery if you want somewhere a bit more off the uni grid to study.
It’s got loads of tables, access to plugs (always a challenge when not in a library) and it’s super light and airy. Plus, if you become a John Lewis member you get a free coffee and cake, and it’s free to join (thank us later).
Corner Coffee
In exam season the caffeine needs to hit, and if you want the best coffee in Cardiff, Corner Coffee has to take to the top spot.
Corner is a speciality coffee shop that gives off the perfect indie vibes. As an added bonus they also do a banging brunch until 3pm to sustain you through the study session.

Metchy’s CafĂ©
If you don’t fancy the walk into town, then Metchy’s CafĂ© is ideal if you want to escape the house but stay close to home. It has super cute study vibes and does very good coffee. We’d definitely recommend their gingerbread latte.
Bute Library
Bute is Cardiff’s best library for channeling your inner Ivy League legend; it’s probably the prettiest out of all there is to offer.
It’s on the second floor of the building and is an ideal study spot as it doesn’t get super busy. The best seats are on the library’s balcony, fyi.
The third floor in the Students’ Union
Cardiff University’s SU is quite rightly one of the best in the country, and while delivering the best YOLO nights out, it also has a really good study space on its third floor.
It has lots of tables if you’re revising in a group, as well as booths and little study cubbies. If you fancy it, why not order The Taf’s food and drinks to your table, or you can play pingpong on your study breaks.
