Here’s how to beat the January blues: Cardiff edition
A survival guide for the post-holiday season
A new year means a fresh start after 2024. While it’s the season of starting your resolutions and getting back into the academic swing, it’s also a time when many can begin feeling unmotivated.
So, here are some tips to beat those January blues.
1. Staying active
The timeless rule of getting enough exercise and vitamin D. It might be cliché, but staying active can do wonders for you during these cold winter months.
Hitting the gym, engaging in a sport, or even going on a walk through Bute Park will help boost those endorphins. It’s important to try and soak up as much vitamin D during those rare sunny days in Cardiff.
2. Set realistic goals
With the yearly pressure of having to meet your list of resolutions, it’s important to set realistic goals for yourself to prevent burnout.
Juggling between studies, exercise, social events, and more, can make anyone feel overwhelmed. Rather, take some time to journal or note down your important aims for the upcoming year.
Create a schedule, and set aside time for either your personal or academic goals. Remember, it’s alright not to meet all your goals in the first month of the year: there’s still another 11.
3. Plan fun activities
While it’s easy to stay cooped up in your room, meeting with your friends is a sure fire way to keep your spirits up.
There’s plenty to do around Cardiff this winter season. For example, Winter Wonderland, which is still open till the 5th, or typically touristy areas like the Cardiff Castle, which will be less crowded during January.
