Six New Year’s resolutions every Cardiff Uni student should make
Things we say we’ll do but never will
As always, the new year has come around very quickly. You’ve probably seen a thousand videos on your socials encouraging you to plan the year ahead and make some resolutions.
We all know these won’t last very long, but as a Cardiff University student, here’s what we’d recommend:
1. Perfectly execute a Cardiff bin day
We’ve all experienced the pain of not wanting to put the bins out. Bin juice everywhere and the bin sacks just falling apart.
Well, in the new year let’s all hope for a routine bin rota and no more bin rats.
2. Fix that five hour sleep schedule
The one thing at uni that everyone will experience is an extreme shift in your sleeping pattern. It’s most likely to be a 3am bedtime and an 8am wakeup call.
Inevitably no one ever thinks to just go to bed earlier, we’d rather just chat or watch tv.
3. Make that Monday morning 9am – and don’t leave in the break
Whoever decided that a 9am on a Monday should be put in our timetables is not okay.
However, the “new year, new me” phase will surely see everyone trying to get to those 9ams, for the first week at least.
4. Spend more time in the ASSL, rather than the Taf
I think we can all agree that the Taf is one of the best places to start and end the night in Cardiff but with the amount of time that students spend there, this could definitely be spent at the library doing what we’re actually at university for.
5. Be productive and beat that Monday afternoon Lidl rush
Most Read
Of course we all need to do a food shop, but after all these years it doesn’t seem anyone has realised that going after 5pm on a Monday to Lidl probably isn’t the best idea.
An ideal resolution might be to choose any other day of the week, at any other time, to avoid spending 15 minutes in the queue.
6. Follow through with that Wednesday social, and try and make it into YOLO (at least before 10pm)
It’s gotten to that point in the year where deadlines are building up and coming near, so maybe missing a social feels like the sensible thing to do. Or, maybe you’re used to taking it too far at pre’s and not making it into YOLO at all.
If you’re a party animal, this resolution might be more up your street: try and stay in YOLO for longer than an hour, and to make it to the SU all together.
