Attempting dry Janurary? How to remain sober but still social in the Toon

There’s more to life than drinking guys x

| UPDATED

Maybe you’ve always wondered what it’s like to go out clubbing sober, or perhaps it’s part of your New Years resolution to reduce drinking.

If you’ve ever heard someone say, “I could never go out without drinking” or “I have to have a drink”—going out without alcohol is a lot easier than it seems. Here are all the ways to get started and still mixing it up, minus the alcohol…

Play your favourite playlist

Let’s start by playing your favourite Spotify playlist when getting ready. It helps you get in right mindset for a good night out. Whether it’s some upbeat or something chill, having the right vibes can make all the difference…

Have an open mind

Going out sober?  it’s all about perspective. Be open to the experience—you might end up having more fun than you expect.

Energise yourself

If you’re feeling a bit low on energy, grab an energy drink or your favourite non-alcoholic drink. It’ll give you that extra boost without needing alcohol to feel energised.

Try a 0 per cent alcoholic drink

Never tried a 0 per cent alcohol drink before? Neither have I, but apparently it is very similar. There’s even Gordons 0 per cent gin, if you’re looking for something that feels like you’re drinking but without the hangover the next day. You get the best of both worlds: you can still get a buzz (minus the hangover).

Take a nap beforehand

Unfortunately, going out sober can still be a long night, especially with uni. If you’re someone who takes naps during the day, take one- you’ll be glad you did when you’re feeling energised and ready to enjoy the night without crashing halfway through- you’ll thank me later x

Hydrate

As basic as it sounds: Water is your best friend, especially if you’re dancing all night. A little hydration goes a long way in keeping your energy up.

Be ready for people to go to the bar

Do whatever you feel is best and what YOU want to do. When you get to the bar, if you’re not in the mood for alcohol, no worries—just order a soft drink or grab an energy drink. It’s all about what you want, and there’s no need to feel like you have to drink just because others are.

Enjoy yourself

Honestly, no one cares if you decide not drink.  You don’t need a drink to have a good time and you’ll probably feel way better in the morning.
