Cute! Inside Danny Jones’ relationship with his mum after dad Alan abandoned the family

Danny Jones has always had an incredibly close relationship with his mum Kathy, so much so that his dad Alan argues that it contributed to the emotional cavern still between them.

When Danny competed and subsequently won the I’m A Celeb crown, his family members kept his Instagram up to date with funny clips, memes, and personal anecdotes. His mum Kathy was part of that team, contributing admittedly shaky footage from Australia.

Though Danny’s dad became a huge talking point after he grew closer to Barry McGuigan, it’s time we give his mum the attention she deserves. After all, she did raise one part of McFly.

Danny stepped up when his father left

Danny and his sister Vicky Wright-Jones were raised at their family home in Bolton, Greater Manchester, with hairdressing mum Kathy and radio DJ Alan.

When Alan and Kathy separated, the former moved to Spain in 2016 with his new wife Sharon, Danny stepped up as the man of the household and purchased their house. He also put his little sister through university.

Kathy guided her son’s musical talent for years, regularly appearing at various performances and public events to support Danny. She quickly became a regular face on the UK’s red carpets.

According to Danny’s dad Alan, who left the family for another woman when Danny was 18 and recording his first McFly tracks, Danny’s relationship with his mum hindered their own.

“I feel as though he’s painted himself into a corner and he doesn’t know how to get out,” he told the MailOnline in November. “I think because he loves his mum so much he’s protected her, and I think any reunion with me, and this is only my opinion, would upset his mum, and I don’t think he wants to do that, and I understand that.”

Kathy found his I’m A Celeb experience difficult to watch

Danny Jones captured the nation’s heart early on in his I’m A Celeb stint as she confessed to his ongoing battle with anxiety, something he directly relates to the trauma he suffered as a kid. He bawled on live TV, something that had a profound effect on his mum.

“That got me a little bit. I was laughing at the snake, wetting myself watching him with the snake in his pants. It’s different emotions isn’t it – I was crying the day after with him,” she told The Sun, adding “I just wanted to hug him. I don’t like seeing him upset – you don’t like seeing your kids upset, do you? He’s doing amazing, I’m so proud of him.”

Danny Jones is a big softie if it wasn’t already clear by his gushy-mushy lyrics and puppy dog eyes. Naturally, he’s always gushed about Kathy in interviews over the decades. In fact, Kathy is a regular feature on Danny’s Instagram feed, whether that be family outings or lengthy tributes to the woman who raised him.

He wrote: “#mothersday today we celebrate the selfless love and nurturing essence of #mothers everywhere. My mum @kathyxcel played an invaluable role in shaping and enriching my life growing up and made me believe that I could achieve anything. I see the same happening with Cooper, @thegeorgiaedit is an incredible mum with so much love, patience and guidance. Big love to #mums. Happy Mother’s Day.”

In another post in 2021, he shared pictures and videos of them messing around alongside the caption: “Mum thanks for keeping me grounded, thanks for making believe anything is possible, most of all thank you for keeping me stupid!! Love you.”
