Melvin reveals bizarre way he snuck salt into I’m A Celeb jungle with his mum’s help

Anything to make rice and beans taste better

The I’m A Celeb jungle is tough, and most contestants would agree the hardest part of doing the show is the lack of food. Rice and beans can only sustain you for so long, and after a while on this year’s season, the contestants were complaining about the bland flavour. However, one naughty celebrity risked it all to bring in salt and pepper – which was never even used! Melvin has opened up about his thought process behind bringing in salt sachets on I’m A Celeb and how he managed to get it past the rigid camp security, with the help of his mum.

Speaking on I’m A Celeb Unpacked, Melvin revealed he had broken a major rule by bringing in salt and pepper packets which he stashed inside of his clothes to smuggle into the camp.

He told hosts Sam Thompson and Joel Dommett: “I love my food, the seasoning. Where was the seasoning?”

Melvin then explained how it all went down: “So basically, my mum used to be a seamstress, so I made like a little pouch. And you know, you get the little sachets of salt so took those in.”

Melvin started to panic when the security guard came to check him over: “I don’t know if you’ve met him but there’s a big security guy and he looks like The Rock who works here, and he patted me down.

“I was nearly about to poo myself, but he didn’t find it. So then when I went in, I was like ‘I need to put it in the food early on’, like the first few days, because I just want to get rid of it.”

He then revealed how he tried to recruit one of his fellow campmates into his plan but she didn’t want to be caught breaking rules.

He said: “I panicked, but Tulisa was our chef on the first few days. So I was like, they might have seen me. I didn’t want to be the guy to put it in. So I tried to hand it to T like that, and no one saw me.

“She just thought I was trying to hold her hand. So she was like, ‘What are you doing?’ So I put in her hand, but because she’s so honest, she never used it.”, he laughed.

“I was thinking, I’ll maybe give her a few days, she’ll use it tomorrow, and then she never used it. But then we became the chefs, I didn’t know where she hid it, and we were being filmed and couldn’t be like, ‘where did you hide the sachets?!’”

The camp was filled with contraband this year as Melvin’s campmate Dean McCullough was also caught with tea bags. Very naughty indeed!
