Right, let’s get to the bottom of the beef going on between Ant and Dean on I’m A Celeb

I’m A Celeb has had its fair share of jungle arguments, however, there seems to be an interesting dynamic between presenter Ant and campmate Dean that has been brewing for the last two weeks. Ant hasn’t been particularly thrilled with Dean’s squeamishness during trials, and viewers have started to notice. Here’s a full rundown of what’s actually going on between them, and why Ant and Dean may be secretly feuding.

Throughout Dean’s seven bushtucker trials, Ant seemed to be losing his patience more and more with Dean who couldn’t help but scream at everything (including sand and fish guts).

As Dean arrived at his third consecutive trial, Ant told him: “Now Dean, I want to have a word with you. What happened yesterday? No stars. What happened the day before? You said I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here. You can only change the narrative by sticking with it and getting on with it.”

During Dean’s last solo challenge where he won 10 stars, Ant was quick to say: “You even got a round of applause from us today,” after a string of disappointing trials which he previously labelled “disappointing” to watch.

Dean added: “Next thing you’ll be following me on Instagram,” but Ant said: “No, no, no, that’s not going to happen.”

Dean’s mum wanted to ‘have a word’ with Ant

It’s not just viewers who noticed Ant’s behaviour towards Dean, but also Dean’s mum.

“I think Ant’s been a wee bit hard on him. I’m going to have to have a word with Ant about that later,” she told The Mirror.

However, she may understand where Ant’s frustration is coming from, as she warned Dean before he went in that  “there’s nothing in that jungle that’s going to kill you, do it, just get over yourself do it.” Very iconic of her.

Ant and Dean finally came head to head following Dean’s exit

During Dean’s exit interview, Ant and Dean finally had it out and Ant explained why he was “very angry” with him during the show.

“I was very angry with you for calling ‘I’m a celebrity,'” Ant started, and Dec chimed in with “that’s because we felt that the trial was doable.”

“Yep, you could have done the trial,” muttered Ant.

He then continued: “Then, that tough love got you through, then I was really proud of you at the end and then by the time you got to the flying challenge, you were brilliant. See, I knew you could do it.”

Dean thanked him for the support and was soon on his way out of the jungle.

Dean spoke about the feud in a post-show interview

Dean finally spoke out about the feud between him and Ant and addressed all of the rumours that have been circulating. He told Good Morning Britain that Ant’s tough love gave him the boost he needed to face his fears.

“When Ant was telling me off for saying ‘I’m a celebrity get me out of here,’ I felt it was a proper telling off. I feel like he meant it. So I did what I was told and I wanted to win him back around, which I think I did in the end.”

Dean agreed Ant was a bit “angsty” with him, but admitted “it worked” because he eventually got 10 stars home for camp and a handshake from Ant.

“What you don’t see on telly is that it’s very quiet, it’s all taken very, very seriously and there’s so many rules that you’ve got to remember and it’s tense. I was the first one to get out and repeat these trials so over the week I actually got used to it.”

Ant later addressed his reaction towards Dean during I’m A Celeb Unpacked, saying: “My annoyance came across on screen and I was quite unprofessional. You get to the point where you’re like what are you doing?”

At least there’s some self-awareness from both sides here. And guess what? They both follow each other on Instagram now. It’s the happy ending we didn’t know we needed.
