Co-stars to iced out: Inside Alan Halsall’s messy relationship with ex-wife Lucy-Jo Hudson

It’s all been kicking off recently

Viewers are getting to know Tyrone Dobbs’ actor Alan Halsall as part of this year’s I’m A Celeb cast, but who is the actor’s ex-wife and former co-star Lucy-Jo Hudson?

Lucy-Joe Hudon, 41, is an actress who you might recognise from staple British productions like Coronation Street where she played Katy Harris from 2002 to 2005. After that, she starred in a leading in the BBC animal drama Wild at Heart, followed by stints in Casualty, Doctors, and Hollyoaks.

Alan Halsall and Lucy-Jo Hudson’s love story began in 2002

Lucy-Jo and Alan first met on the set of Coronation Street, with their respective characters Katy Harris and Tyrone Dobbs engaging in a relationship years before their actors did. When Lucy-Jo left the project in 2005, after her character had an abortion, murdered her father, and died by suicide, reports emerged of them dating.

Four years after their first date in 2009, Alan and Lucy-Jo married at St Bertoline’s Church in Barthomley, Cheshire, with notable names like Samia Longchambon, Tina O’Brien, and Jane Danson all in attendance.

They welcomed a daughter in 2013

“Lucy-Jo & I are delighted to announce the arrival of our little girl born this morning. Mother & baby are home with a very proud father,” they announced on Twitter in 2013, naming her Sienna Rae.

Though the couple had been trying to conceive, both of them shared their shock at the news while admitting that they didn’t even need to try that hard.

“Lucy took me by surprise when she told me she was pregnant. I made her do five pregnancy tests because I couldn’t believe it happened so fast,” they told OK Magazine. “I feel awful because a lot of our friends have struggled. I feel guilty telling people I’m pregnant because it happened so fast, while other people have been trying for months or even years.”

Why did they split up?

Despite a brief split and subsequent rekindling in 2016, Alan and Lucy-Jo seemed content in their little family. Unfortunately, that changed in 2018 when they announced their divorce.

“I can confirm Al and I are in the process of divorcing. We remain friends and devoted mummy and daddy to our daughter Sienna,” Lucy-Jo said.

Nonetheless, a source told The Sun there was no bad blood between them, explaining: “It’s very amicable but they’ve decided to go their separate ways. Alan’s been joking that he’s having a mid-life crisis and he went and treated himself to a brand-new car five days ago. It’s a difficult time for both of them. They’re devastated the marriage is over but have vowed to stay friends. They still really care for each other.”

Lucy-Jo has a new man, Alan is single

After separating from Alan, Lucy-Jo began dating fellow actor Lewis Devine in 2018, with the happy couple welcomed a son into the world in 2020, naming him Carter.

Meanwhile, besides a brief relationship with Tish Merry, who acts as Steph Britto alongside him in Coronation Street, Alan is quite happy living his best single life.

“Lucy left Corrie in about 2005, then we got married in 2009. We then split up after Sienna was born,” he told his campmates in the I’m A Celeb jungle last week. “I love what I’ve got, even now I’m on my own, I love it when it’s me and Sienna and that’ll change I’m sure, that’ll be different at some point but I’ve never done dating apps.”

It all kicked off this week

In November, when Alan’s casting in I’m A Celeb was announced, a source claimed that he was not on speaking terms with his ex-wife, something Lucy-Jo passionately denies.

“Alan and Lucy-Jo still aren’t on speaking terms. If Alan needs anything he goes through her boyfriend Lewis. They both want what’s best for their daughter Sienna but they won’t communicate. Things are just as bad as when they first fell out,” they said.  “Alan still has a few issues with how things played out between them when they split.”

After watching people speculate that she had a rocky relationship with her ex-husband, Lucy-Jo Hudson took to Instagram just this week to set the record straight.

“First of all, me and my ex have been divorced seven years. I actually can’t believe it’s a topic of conversation because it’s pretty boring. We share Sienna 50/50. We communicate. She’s a happy kid. We get on great,” she explained. “Second of all, myself and Lewis will be sat down with Sienna watching the jungle. We wish him nothing but the best. We are going to be there for Sienna supporting her throughout this journey because, yes, she’s going to miss her dad. He’s in her life all the time, so this is quite a strange thing.”
