Liam Payne: All the new information about the hours before his tragic death, explained

Police reportedly believe he was trying to escape his hotel room

New information has come out about Liam Payne’s death at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel on 16th October. Police reportedly believe hotel workers took Liam Payne to his room, and he may have fallen from the balcony while trying to get out of the room.

Here’s an explanation of everything we now know about what happened right before Liam Payne’s death.

There was an incident in the hotel lobby

Liam Payne spent the afternoon in the lobby of the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires. His friend Rogelio Nores last saw him there. He told the Daily Mail, “I never abandoned Liam. I went to his hotel three times that day and left 40 minutes before this happened. There were over 15 people at the hotel lobby chatting and joking with him when I left. I could have never imagined something like this would happen.”

The police are also investigating an unknown suspect for the crime of abandoning Liam Payne before his death. But Rogelio Nores has denied that this is him.

CCTV footage from the CasaSur Palermo Hotel shows Liam Payne causing a disturbance in the lobby. Three hotel staff carried him upstairs to his room. Liam Payne seems to have resisted.

TMZ obtained a report from the Argentinian police. Apparently the hotel workers took down a mirror outside his hotel room in case Liam damaged it.

He had alcohol and drugs in his system

The National Prosecutor’s Office for Criminal and Correctional Matters in Argentina released a report about the investigation into the singer’s death. The statement explained what the results of the toxicology report were.

The report says, “The results of the toxicological studies – already communicated to his family – revealed that, in the moments prior to his death and during at least his last 72 hours, Payne only had traces in his body of a poly-consumption of alcohol, cocaine and a prescribed anti-depressant.

“The morticians… concluded that Payne’s death was caused by ‘polytraumatisms’ and ‘internal and external haemorrhage’, as a result of the fall the musician suffered from the balcony of the third floor room of the hotel in the Palermo neighbourhood where he was staying.”

So, although Liam Payne had been drinking and taking drugs, these substances aren’t what killed him.

The Argentinian police are investigating two people who may have supplied drugs to Liam Payne. One is a worker at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel. The second is somebody else from the area.

An Argentinian waiter called Braian Nahuel Paiz admitted on the Argentinian news to taking drugs with Liam Payne twice. However, he denied supplying the singer with drugs.

Braian’s last spent time with Liam Payne on 13th October at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel – three days before Liam Payne died.

Some of the hotel workers were concerned and phoned the police

The BBC published transcripts of two phone calls between the lead receptionist at the hotel and the Buenos Aires police.

The hotel worker said, “We’ve got a guest who has had too many drugs and alcohol and, well, when he is conscious he is trashing the entire room and we need you to send someone, please.”

He added, “We need you to send someone urgently because, well, I don’t know whether his life may be in danger, the guest’s life. He is in a room with a balcony and well, we’re a little afraid.”

The hotel room was in a mess

Photos have circulated online which are supposedly of Liam Payne’s hotel room. The pictures show a smashed TV set, a half-drunk glass of champagne, a wine glass, a small toiletries bottle, white powder and a Dove soap box. There is a picture of a half-burned candle and charred aluminium foil in a bathtub.

Liam Payne was in a state of ‘semi or total unconsciousness’

Medical teams don’t think Liam Payne’s death was a suicide, because he seems to have only been partially conscious when it happened.

The report from the prosecutor’s office says, “Self-injury of any kind and/or the physical intervention of third parties were ruled out. (The medical team) also stressed that the victim did not adopt a reflexive posture to protect himself in the fall, so that, for the moment, it can be inferred that he may have fallen in a state of semi or total unconsciousness.

“Although other medical antecedents of the victim’s medical history have yet to be analysed, the phenomenon of the lack of defence or conservation reflex in the fall, together with other relevant data due to its consumption, allow us to conclude that Liam Payne was not fully conscious or was in a state of noticeable decrease or abolition of consciousness at the time of the fall.

“For the prosecution, this situation would also rule out the possibility of a conscious or voluntary act on the part of the victim, since, in the state he was in, he did not know what he was doing and could not understand it.”

Liam Payne may have fallen from the balcony while trying to escape the hotel room

He reportedly hated being confined in hotel rooms. TMZ says that Liam Payne grew to dislike it while he was in One Direction, because the band members had to spend a lot of time confined in hotel rooms. Apparently in mid-September, Liam Payne’s bodyguard was concerned about him and shut him inside a room in a rental house in Florida. He climbed out the balcony and used a hose pipe to get to the ground.

The local media in Argentina have reported that witnesses and security footage suggest Liam Payne may have been trying to escape from his hotel room via the balcony when he fell and died. Police found a hat and a small bag next to his body. A larger leather bag was on the balcony below Liam’s. This has led police to theorise that Liam Payne may have thrown the large bag off his balcony, then attempted to climb down himself.
