Debunked: GTA 5 developer has finally revealed the truth behind the Mount Chiliad mystery

These are the answers we’ve all been waiting for!

Rockstar are known for their iconic mysteries in their games, with the Mount Chiliad mystery in GTA 5 being one of the most talked about. There’s a whole subreddit dedicated to try and solve the mystery of it with over 40k people involved in it.

In case you need a little refresher on what the deal with Mount Chiliad is in GTA 5, it’s the biggest mountain in the game and is suspected to be filled with easter eggs. There’s a map on the summit of the mountain which seems to reference locations of secret objects around the mountain.

A message reading: “COME BACK WHEN YOUR STORY IS COMPLETE” can also be found at the back of the observation deck at the top of the mountain. Underneath the observation deck is a huge red eye which has been carved into the rock and looks similar to the one found in the cable car drawing.

Players have spent years trying to work out the mysteries of the mountains by connecting the dots, placing the lines from the summit map onto the game map and much much more. However, so far nothing concrete has been found despite thousands of attempts from players across the world.

But now a former Rockstar developer who worked on GTA 5 has revealed the truth behind the Chiliad mystery, and it’s very anti-climatic.

In an interview with GTAVIoclock, developer Ben Hinchliffe revealed it was all designed “just to mess with people.”

When asked about the attempts to decode the mysteries of Mount Chiliad, he explained: “As with all easter eggs, sometimes you just put them in to mess with people. They don’t actually do anything, you just mess with people, drive them a little bit crazy.”

Something tells me that despite his answer, players are still going to be convinced there’s more to the story. At least it’s a good topic to immerse yourself in until GTA 6 finally comes along!
