Autumnal days out to romanticise spooky season in Manchester

For when Platt Fields just isn’t cutting it

| UPDATED

Who doesn’t love romanticising the autumn, going for crisp long walks and watching Gilmore Girls on repeat? Since summer has come to a close and the weather in Manchester is reminding us that winter is fast approaching, here is a guide to some wholesome days out in the surrounding areas of Fallowfield that can help you make the most of spooky season in Manchester.

Fletcher Moss

For an alternative to a quick walk around Platt Fields Park, head a bit further to Didsbury’s Fletcher Moss Park for a wholesome afternoon. This is a great alternative to reconnect with nature after a long week, as you stroll through the botanical gardens feeling the crunch of the leaves below your feet.

Knutsford

Knutsford is a quaint town on the outskirts of Manchester that provides another opportunity to romanticise the autumn. Walking down the cobbled streets surrounded by the auburn trees, it is the perfect opportunity to justify buying overpriced coffee and rummaging through charity shops. It’s only a 40min train from Piccadilly, and is a charming, historical town with lots of shops, cafés, and bars.

Dunham Massey

For a magical day out away from Fallowfield’s chaos, visit the National Trust property and garden Dunham Massey. Located close to Altrincham, roam around the park spotting the deer and wildlife. This is a great location for a picnic and a temporary escape from student life.

Pumpkin picking

For an activity that will make you feel like the ultimate Instagram influencer, why not try a day of pumpkin picking! There are a range of spots around the outskirts of Manchester, including Stockport and Ashton-under-Lyne, so why not try living your influencer dreams having a photoshoot at a pumpkin patch this autumn to get you in the spooky season mood!

Chapter One Books

Romanticise your studying by heading to Chapter One Books in Northern Quarter. An independent bookstore and café where you can browse, drink chai lattes and contribute to your mysterious aesthetic.

Whitworth Art Gallery

If you’re wanting a break from your lectures, head down to Whitworth Art Gallery on Oxford Road for a solo expedition. Enjoy the variety of collections and exhibitions and finish the morning with a hot chocolate in the café, looking out onto Whitworth Park appreciating the beautiful colours of the trees around you.

Sunday Roast

To top off your perfect day, treat yourself to a roast dinner in one of the various pubs in Manchester. Check out The Manchester Tab’s guide on the best and cheapest roast, and enjoy!
