Here are the top nights out for students in Sheffield, according to a third year
You won’t want to miss out on these
Whether you’re new to Sheffield or just looking to level up your student nightlife game, this city has loads of places for a great night out.
From iconic club nights to budget friendly bars, you won’t fall short on things to do in the city, so here’s a little guide to the best spots to go to during Freshers’ Week and beyond, starting with the buzzing venues you simply can’t miss!
Foundry
The Foundry does not sleep during Freshers’ Week, hosting eight consecutive club nights.
So what if you’ve just unpacked your bags? Get that cheap bottle of wine down you and make your way to “The Official Sheffield Welcome Party” on Sunday 22nd September. Then go back the following night to see your favourite furry CBBC presenter at “Hacker’s House Party” – gosh it sounds iconic already.
Embrace the nocturnal lifestyle and kick off the semester with the first “Tuesday Club”, or “ROAR” Wednesday. Want to make it even more fun? Stick to the “fav animal” theme or unleash your creative side and create your own theme with your flatmates. Trust me, if there’s any place you can pull off looking daft, it’s “ROAR”.
As the week commences, pop down to Thursday’s “Soul Jam” and dance to some funk, soul and disco tunes, or “The Big Freshers Icebreaker” on the Friday – it’s going to be huge.
Hallamnation
While I’ve never crossed enemy lines to venture into Crystal, for any Hallam students out there, I’ve heard that Hallamnation is an absolute must for freshers.
Most Read
Held every Wednesday, this legendary night boasts three floors of music, each offering a different vibe. Whether you’re into chart-toppers, indie-anthems or throwback classics, there’s something different for everyone.
West Street
One of the best things about Sheffield is that if you haven’t bought a club ticket in time, there’s no need to stress – you can just head to West Street.
This packed street has loads of bars that suit a student budget as well as multiple places to get a massive greasy kebab afterwards. Sounds perfect to me.
West Street Live is great for getting ridiculously cheap, wildly named drinks. Shrek bomb for two quid? Yeah, go on then.
Variety is the spice of life, and West Street’s variety is why we love it. If you’re a live music fan head over to Molly Malones, where cracking Irish-style musicians take the stage every Friday and Saturday from 10pm.
Then, go to Bierkeller, grab a ‘Quad Vod’ and spend the rest of the night trying not to fall off one of the benches.
The Leadmill
Now, you can’t really claim to be a fresher unless you have been to at least one “Leadmill Friday”.
If you’re a fan of classic indie tunes or pop bangers then get yourself on that 120 bus and head to the iconic venue (and make sure to get yourself a regular’s card for cheeky discounts).
Tip: Ask for “green stuff”, god knows what’s in it but it’s delish.
Corp
Corporation is great for students who don’t have a 9am lecture on a Tuesday. With drinks starting from 80p, it’s another place that offers three rooms featuring a mix of house, dance, cheesy pop and rock anthems. So, why not kick off your week with a lively night at “Monday Corp”?
Trust me it’s the only place that isn’t dead at the start of the week.
Tank
Then there’s Tank.
This venue is great for anyone who loves a bit of house, tech and bass music. Located in the city centre, this underground venue hosts a range of epic club nights all week, its also home to the legendary, annual “Bassfest”. So, if that sounds like your scene, get yourself to town.
(Be warned of the achy arms the next morning).
