Dodgy interviews and solo trips: The five huge signs Joey and Jessy had secretly split

Yesterday, it was announced Love Island 2024 couple Joey Essex and Jessy Potts have split up, just seven weeks after the show. Since leaving the villa, the couple have been followed around by breakup rumours, but you can’t really be surprised, all the signs were there.

Since the show it has been very clear Joey has seen a big boost to his already huge profile, and Jessy has been thrown into a world she’s not used to. They’ve done interviews where cracks looked clear, and it was also pretty obvious they weren’t spending as much time together as they may have wanted.

“Unfortunately, we have decided to call an end to the relationship but I hope we can continue to be friends. I truly wish Jessy the very best with whatever she does in the future,” Joey said of the split. Jessy added: “I appreciate the Love Island experience I had with Joey, we tried to make it work but it wasn’t to be. I’m so grateful to everyone who supported us and look forward to all of the exciting opportunities ahead.”

Look, let’s kick off with that Joey and Jessy straight up said themselves that their relationship was hard. Not long after coming home from the villa, The Sun reported the pair were “on the rocks” and due to their “hectic schedules” had “hardly seen one another.”

A source told the publication: “Joey and Jessy have barely spent any time together as he’s been so busy doing nightclub PAs – it’s causing a lot of friction between them. At Ronnie Vint’s Eggiboff event it was noticed by a lot of people that they hardly spoke. Sadly it looks like it’s only a matter of time before they split.”

At the same time, Jessy told Heat their relationship was “hard” because of their schedules. “We’re organising when to see each other, and I think it’s hard because you compare it to the other couples,” she said.

“They’re with each other 24/7, whereas we always knew it was going to be different because he’s catching up on his normal life, whereas for the rest of us we’re thrown into a new life.”

In recent weeks, both Joey and Jessy have enjoyed fun holidays. But I’m not talking loved-up trips enjoying their new relationship, they both went away separately. Joey went off to Ibiza with family, whilst Jessy had a girls’ trip to Marbella.

Joey spoke about himself a lot in interviews, and focused on his future alone

The first TV interview Joey and Jessy did after Love Island was with This Morning, and even from then it was clear there were differences in what they wanted for the future.

During the chat, Joey said he was taking a break from reality TV – probably because he’s done every show there is – and said he wanted to try his luck cracking America. However, when speaking about this, Joey shared everything as what “I” am going to do in the future, and there was no mention of Jessy – despite her literally being sat next to him.

“I feel like I’ve done every reality show possible now,” he said.  “I don’t think I’d really want to do Strictly. I’m just taking a break. I’ve got some opportunities over in America at the moment so I feel like I might maybe take it over there.” Do you want to say “we” just once, maybe?

Jessy also spoke a lot about her future plans, without Joey

It’s not just been Joey who has failed to mention his other half in interviews, Jessy is guilty of it too. Speaking to Heat about her future plans, Jessy said: “I just want to make the most of everything, I’m the type of person who takes every opportunity as it comes.

“I would love to get more into fashion and just try to make the most of what I’ve got and take every opportunity and just run with it. I’m not sure exactly what’s to come yet but it’s all very exciting.” She didn’t mention what her future might look like with Joey, at all.

They hardly posted together

As with any Love Island split, their Instagram accounts says a lot. People had been noticing right from the moment Joey and Jessy left the villa that they hardly ever posted together. Jessy went to a lot of events with her fellow Islanders, and Joey wasn’t there, and Joey was doing a lot of public appearances and work things, without Jessy.

The signs were all there!
