Got $500k to spare? These are officially the 10 most expensive US colleges right now

I guess I’ll stop complaining about my student loan now

Ever dreamed about joining a sorority? Acting out your Elle Woods fantasies at Harvard? Or living your Serena van der Woodsen best life at a college in the US?

Well, I’m here to change your mind and drag you back into reality with the astonishing cost of going to university in America.

If you thought £27,750 for a degree in the UK was bad, then you’ll be shocked to the core by the prices of the 10 most expensive US colleges, and no, what you paid for your whole degree won’t even pay for a year here.

10. Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Massachusetts – $441,948

MIT is widely renowned as one of the world’s leading research centres for technology and innovation.

It also boasts an incredible host of alumni such as Buzz Aldrin who was one of the first men on the moon, Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, and most importantly, Good Luck Charlie icon, Bridget Mendler.

But whilst it might seem expensive, the university does have a chocolate science society, so I’d say it’s worth it. You never know, you could be the next Willy Wonka.

9. Yale University, Massachusetts – $451,516

Blair Waldorf’s dream school has one hefty price tag if you’re wanting to study there. You could literally buy a three bed house in Birmingham for less.

But I digress, Yale is arguably one of America’s most famous schools, and it’s clear to see why as looking at its notable alumni, is like reading an invitation list to a White House dinner. Hillary Clinton, President George W Bush, President Bill Clinton, and Meryl Streep are just some of the famous faces who have graced Yale’s hallways.

Kind of hard to imagine them chugging beers at a frat party.

8. George Washington University, Washington D.C – $454,377

via Youtube

Fancy living in the capital? Maybe rubbing shoulders with political elites? Or maybe Night At The Museum 2 sparked an interest in Washington?

Well then this would be the university for you, but only if you’ve got a cheeky half a million to spare.

Unsurprisingly, this university is known for churning out top politicians, lawyers and an unusual amount of astronauts, but would you expect any less?

7. University of Chicago, Chicago – $455,257

via Youtube

I now know two things about Chicago; it makes a solid pizza and that if I want to go to its university, I’d have to sell all my organs.

6. University of Southern California, Los Angeles – $457,650

via Youtube

If you want to see Olivia Rodrigo cutting about in the hallways then this is the university for you.

Situated in LA, it’s a shock to no one that this college is packed with celebrities. Notable alumni include Star Wars and Indiana Jones creator, George Lucas, Will Ferrell, Lily Collins, and Rob Kardashian, to name a few.

5. California Institute of Technology, Pasadena – $458,330

via Youtube

All of you Modern Family fans may recognise this one as where Alex Dunphy went to college, and I know what you’re thinking, it’s a good job she got a scholarship as Phil and Claire would have to remortgage their house to pay her fees.

This college, like MIT, is famous for its scientific and technological research which is no surprise considering its name.

4. Harvard University, Massachusetts – $472,027

via Youtube

Out of all the most expensive US colleges, Harvard is the dream college for all Legally Blonde fans. Just imagine rocking up to lectures all in pink with a fluffy pen at the ready. Truly a dream.

However, Elle Woods isn’t the only famous face in this elite set of alumni as Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, Natalie Portman and JFK also call this college their alma mater.

3. Georgetown University, Washington D.C – $472,817

via Youtube

A Star Is Born’s Bradley Cooper went here, and is even featured on the university’s homepage. I suppose you’ve got to milk your celeb alumni for all you’ve got when you’re convincing someone to pay nearly half a million for a degree.

2. New York University, New York – $497,402

via Youtube

Any Gossip Girl fans out there? If you said yes then you’ll know this is the college Blair, Dan, Vanessa, and Georgia all go to at some point in the show.

However, so did Anne Hathaway, Adam Sandler, Miles Teller, and Idina Menzel.

This is clearly the place to go if you want to be an A-lister.

1. Columbia University, New York – $514,442

via Youtube

And in first place out of the most expensive US colleges is our only university costing more than $500,oo0.

If you have a spare half a million then get yourself to New York City and enrol at Columbia where you’ll be able to say you went to the same university as the one and only Barack Obama. Quite a flex.
