There were actually 11 engagements during Love Is Blind UK, and we only saw six of them

During every season of Love Is Blind on Netflix it soon gets revealed there were extra engagements we didn’t see on the show, but during the first UK season, the number of times this happened was more than ever.

We usually hear of two or three engagements not managing to make it into the screen time of the show, but it’s been revealed that during Love Is Blind UK season one there were a huge 11 proposals – and we only saw six of them.

During the season, we saw engagements between Freddie and Catherine, Bobby and Jasmine, Ollie and Demi, Tom and Maria, Steve and Sabrina and Benaiah and Nicole. But that really was just the tip of the love iceberg the show produced – there were five more couples who said yes in the pods.

This revelation came from Shirley Bekker, who you might not recognise but she is a junior doctor, who was part of the pod squad cast of Love Is Blind UK season one. She said she didn’t find love on the show, but she was literally one of the only cast members who didn’t.

“Netflix cast a total of 15 women and 15 men, although you saw a total of six engagements, 11 of our cast got engaged,” she said in a TikTok. “There were only four of us who didn’t get engaged. Only certain stories can get followed all the way to the altar because they can’t fit in that many stories into that few episodes.”

Shirley then went on to say she did form a connection with someone, and ended up being “ride or die” with them, but on one date the person she had been speaking to told her he had formed a “more special” connection with someone else. Shirley was obviously left heartbroken, and asked producers if she could leave.

Shirley said the man is called Richie, and he had told her he intended to propose to a woman called Ria. Shirley confirmed Richie and Ria did get engaged after the pods. Richie is 30, and a sports turf maintenance director from Gloucestershire, whilst Ria is 34 and a commercial contracts manager from London.

Shirley didn’t confirm any of the other proposals that happened, but did say we missed a moment where a girl was the one who proposed to one of the guys! I feel robbed!

Show creator Chris Coelen has previously said: “Each season, there are are lots of stories that we don’t tell, regardless of whether couples get engaged or not. Some of them even, we will follow for a little bit and not show their story on the show… It’s a little bit of a judgement call.”
