Molly-Mae and Tommy had been ‘living separate lives’ and hit a ‘rocky patch’ ahead of split

‘Personality clashes’ and ‘tensions over behaviour’ caused doubts about their wedding

Yesterday the news hit that Love Island icons Molly-Mae Hague and Tommy Fury had split up, after five years together. The couple both announced statements confirming they have ended their relationship, but now more context about what happened is being reported on.

In an emotional statement on Instagram, Molly-Mae said she never expected their story would end this way, but said after meeting on Love Island 2019 and sharing five years together, they have decided to call it a day.

“I will forever be grateful for the most important thing to me now and always, my beautiful daughter,” Molly said. “Without us there would be no her, she will always be my priority. I want to thank you all for the love and support you have shown us over the last five years. You have all been part of our journey and it feels right to share this with you all.

“Whilst I attempt to navigate the coming days and weeks please kindly respect my privacy over this difficult time. I’ll be back when it feels right.”

The news came as Molly-Mae had previously said she was struggling parenting Bambi on her own, with Tommy being away so much. It’s now been reported the pair were “living separate lives” right up until they ended things.

MailOnline is reporting the couple “hit a rocky patch” ahead of breaking up, as Tommy was pictured partying abroad whilst Molly was at home looking after Bambi.

In a vlog just weeks before the split, Molly-Mae said: “I’ve been solo parenting for like, two weeks now, basically because Tommy’s just been so busy. When he’s home from doing work and stuff, he’s so incredible and so helpful. I can’t say any different, like, he’s such an incredible dad, but I have been this week, like, just really… mum life has been mum lifing. I just feel like, at the minute I’ve been struggling a little bit.”

Friends of the pair told MailOnline their relationship had hit a rocky patch, with personality clashes and tension over each other’s behaviour causing doubts about whether their long-awaited marriage would ever take place. “They are spending time apart quite a bit. They are leading quite separate lives,” a friend said.

Tommy had been abroad with work and on holiday so many times recently, Molly admitted she didn’t always know where he was, or where he was soon to be going.

Announcing the split, Tommy posted a statement of his own, reflecting what Molly-Mae already said, but in a shorter sentiment. He said he is “heartbroken” by what has happened, and said he will “forever be thankful to Molly for making me a dad.”
