Erm, Oscar Tully named after iconic Sesame Street character in House of the Dragon books

And yes, obviously his older brother is called Kermit

I think we’re all a bit obsessed with one of the newest characters in House of the Dragon, Oscar Tully who everyone thinks has major Lyanna Mormont energy. But, it turns out that in the original House of the Dragon books, Oscar and the rest of his family were all named after various characters from Sesame Street and I won’t lie it’s quite iconic.

Oscar’s older brother was called Kermit, with his father being named after Elmo and his grandfather Grover Tully. Now all I’m thinking about is how iconic a Muppet version of House of the Dragon would be.

We first meet Oscar when he takes Lord Grover’s place in a meeting with Daemon, due to his grandfather being too ill to attend. Daemon asks whether he would consider hurrying along with his grandfather’s death in order to claim his inheritance and help the war effort. But Oscar is horrified at the thought, telling Daemon he thinks of him as a father figure.

Daemon asks if Oscar will instead act on behalf of his grandfather to which he replies: “That is not our way.” This gets Daemon all riled up and he storms out of the room, telling Oscar he’s only in need of “men of action.”

In the House of the Dragon books, Oscar Tully does end up pledging his allegiance to Rhaenyra and is knighted after his brave actions in the Battle of the Kingsroad. After the war, he starts his own company called the Stormbreakers, who help to hunt down those who have betrayed Rhaenyra, including some familiar faces
