From Butcher’s death to Homelander the hero: The biggest theories for The Boys season five
Buckle in for more deaths on the way
If you haven’t been watching The Boys season four, then not only are you are missing out on some cute superheroes, but also all of the fan theories. Some of them have me spiralling, especially theories about an unconfirmed season five.
Set in a universe where certain individuals have super powers and are known as the supes, the satirical twist to the show is outside of the heroes personas, where characters are all quite chaotic when not saving the general public. It’s essentially like having two personas, one that’s professional in the office and the other that goes clubbing till dawn on the weekend.
No superhero show is without it’s villains as the supes work for Vought International, which markets the boys and is basically an evil corporation. However as we know, The Seven are part of Vought and are the enemies of the boys who are trying to bring Vought down. So in short, it’s a superhero show with a lot of comedy in short and a classic goodie versus baddie plot.
Aside from the obvious, there are a lot of fan theories which are circling too. Here’s a round up of The Boys theories you might want to skim past if you don’t want spoilers.
Will Hughie kill Butcher?
Most Read
A theory is that a final blow out will happen between these two characters which will inevitably end in Butcher’s death, in the next season. This confrontation will actually be about the fact that Butcher doesn’t want to be a supe and will lead Hughie on slightly to kill him. Is this a plausible theory? I mean, no one wants to be a supe ideally and Butcher would want to be with Becca instead. It’s plausible.
Ryan sides with Soldier Boy
Reddit is currently in a chokehold with a theory that Ryan will actually align with Soldier Boy. Although frightening, it’s a possible theory which might happen following the season four finale which teased the return of Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy.
A season five time jump
This season is still yet to be confirmed however, it’s possible there could be a time jump from the season four finale as this can be a normal trajectory for TV shows that extend to more seasons. Will Ryan fight Homelander if there’s a time jump? Well, this theory has been around for a while that Ryan is actually being trained up to fight him or the other option is that Ryan will die before the end of season five.
Butcher is the next villain
Sort of linking back to the first theory, this concept will see Butcher’s super tumour as the cause of his downfall, eventually leading him to attack many people. There may be a lot of hallucinations for Butcher’s character such as Joe and Becca, again showing the demise of his mental state. And does anyone remember the scene when Butcher was staring at the rabbit and the tentacles popped up? This could be the writers foreshadowing of the craziness to come with this character.
Homelander’s love for milk is what’s keeping him alive
One slightly odd Reddit theory believes that Homelander is alive due to his obsession with milk. The theory goes on to explain how the use of his powers for extraordinary physical feats and lazor vision strains his body so much he requires milk for essential protein and calcium repair. One user wrote: “Up til now he’s been self medicating due to being forced into a love for it since he was a child, but as he gives it up/ is deprived of it, he will begin to slowly get weaker and die.”
The end of Homelander
So what are the predictions for the end of Homelander? Well, another theory suggests it could be possible that this character won’t die and will in fact just lose his powers. Thinking about it, his powers are the only good trait so what if instead of a death he actually just loses everything and becomes pretty useless? But, the hopes are high that Butcher does kill him in the end or mocks him until Homelander eventually dies.
Or, Ryan kills him after discovering Becca was raped and that Homelander is the reason why he’s lost everything.
Stormfront was Homelanders Mother
Although this wouldn’t change a great deal, fans think that it would add a real element of comedy to the show if it was revealed that Stromfront was actually Homelanders mum.
What will happen with Compound V?
The general incentive on this theory is that perhaps the plague will get rid of everyone with Compound V and a lot of people will die.
However, one theory is that the exposure of Compound V to the world by Hughie and Starlight will kick off a chain reaction that leads to espionage theft and development of rival superhero teams in different parts of the world. These new teams in Russia, China and even in allies such as Britain and China will lead to a global supe arms race which eventually leads to a third world war.
Heroes and villains will be reversed
One of the most popular The Boys theories is a role reversal between the heroes and villains. Writers do love a plot twist so fans think that it’s possible in season five that we actually Homelander as the hero and The Boys become the bad guys. Eventually, this leads to both Homelander and Butcher dying together as they both have pretty bad luck and fates ahead of them.
Ryan will get older
There has to be some tie up with Ryan and his dad, with Ryan realising how evil he is. This could either be with a fast forward in time to age Ryan or he just gets stronger as a character. Who knows what will happen?
Season five will be the end of The Boys
A lot of Redditt fans say that this will be the last season, if it is renewed. It does make sense as characters such as Butcher are very ill, meaning that more seasons would have to be condensed into a super short time frame. Also, the story will stick to the way its been written in the comic books making it more authentic for the fans. Although, the show could last for six or seven seasons if the writers wanted to bring in new characters for the universe.
