Kasbah club cancels ‘real’ Martha from Baby Reindeer appearance due to ‘negative publicity’
‘The promoter has deemed the event unsafe’
Kasbah Nightclub in Coventry has released a statement declaring it has cancelled the club appearance meet and greet with Fiona Harvey, alleged to be the inspiration behind Martha from Baby Reindeer on Netflix, due to “the negative publicity”.
The club has received major backlash on social media after it shared a poster on its Facebook and Instagram pages saying it has booked Fiona Harvey, who has come forward as the alleged real woman who inspired Martha in Baby Reindeer, just a few days after her big profile interview with Piers Morgan
Claiming the club appearance was a “world exclusive”, Kasbah club writes: “A personal appearance by Fiona Harvey aka Martha of Baby Reindeer this Saturday 18th May. She will be signing autographs, taking selfies and she may also take a lucky reindeer home to hang her curtains.”
The reaction to the post was extremely negative. On Facebook, someone commented: “This isn’t okay, don’t take advantage of someone so vulnerable.” Kasbah responded: “The actor has starred in a series based on his own true life story, he literally created the publicity for her? He’s laughing all the way to the bank.”
The “real” Martha, Fiona Harvey, recently did an interview with Piers Morgan where she told him that she “is not a stalker” and has never spent time in prison. “It is completely untrue and very career damaging,” she said. “I want to rebut that. I’m not a stalker. It’s just complete nonsense.”
