Here are some Cardiff themed cocktails to spice up your Halloween party
The cocktails might be scary but the prices wont be
Halloween is here and in this cozzie living, how can we be expected to go out-out every week?
Many students are opting for house parties this year, and we can’t blame them, they’re fun, cheap, and the likelihood of random people you’ve never met before forcing their way into your dance circle is significantly lower.
You’ve put up the decorations and planned your costume (or maybe not) but now you’re feeling generous and want to provide some Halloween themed cocktails to make the night that extra bit special. We’ve planned some cheap(ish) Cardiff themed cocktails to make your friends howl with excitement.
Cardiff Cauldron Cooler
This one is for the more seasoned drinkers, the ginger ale gives a bit of a kick and the lime juice adds a zest which would scare off the die-hard vodka lemonade drinkers between us.
Feel free to replace the rum with whiskey if you’re feeling frivolous, but we’re planning for a budget here.
Ingredients:
- Spiced Rum
- Ginger Ale
- A little bit of Lime Juice
- Lime wedge for garnish
- Ice
Instructions: Combine spiced rum, ginger ale, and lime juice in a glass with ice. Stir and garnish with a lime wedge.
Welsh Witch’s Brew
Look, maybe we were reaching with the Welsh Witch idea, but you’re drinking it in Wales and it’s an alliteration okay?
Regardless, this one is sweeter with the blackberry liqueur that can be substituted with any other dark red/ purple liqueur. Feel free to even add some vodka or gin if you’re feeling like also scaring your bank account on halloween.
Ingredients:
- Blackberry Liqueur
- Cranberry Juice
- Soda water or tonic water (anything that fizzes really)

Instructions: Mix blackberry liqueur and cranberry juice in a glass with ice, you can layer it if you know how to. Top off with soda and stir.
Red Dragon’s Blood
We’re sorry Mr.Red Dragon, we do love you but its halloween.
In reality, is has cranberry juice so the girlies out there can pretend they’re actually doing their body good (ifykyk) whilst drinking copious amounts of alcohol.
Ingredients:
- Dragonberry Rum (or any flavoured rum, gin, or vodka tbh)
- Cranberry Juice
- Grenadine
- Lime Juice
- Ice (bonus if its crushed)
Instructions: Mix the rum, cranberry and lime juice together in a separate jug/ bowl. Drip the grenadine around the rim of the glass on the inside to create a dripping “blood” effect. Put in some ice and pour the drink mix carefully over it.
Coal Miner’s Cooler
There’s nothing inherently spooky about this drink but I guess you could close your eyes and imagine yourself down in the coal pits. That’s pretty scary. If you’re Welsh, you can close your eyes and remember the closing of the coal pits, that’s even scarier.
Ingredients:
- Dark rum
- Cola (you can choose any but we will judge you accordingly)
- Lime juice
- Ice cubes
Instructions: Put in the ice and pour everything over, go mad, there’s no right to wrong way to do this- just make sure to only use a little bit of lime juice.
