UCL climbs Times Higher Education world subject rankings

UCL rose in six out of 11 disciplines on the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject 2022 compared to its 2021 results. Notably, Engineering moved up six places from 42nd to 36th place and Law from 8th to 6th.

The university now has 10 subjects considered among the top 25 globally and is ranked 18th in overall performance on the THE league table – which includes “more than 1,600 universities across 99 countries and territories.”

“Although various league tables have their strengths and weaknesses, I welcome the recognition of UCL’s continued improvement across a range of disciplines. This is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff and students who have continued to flourish despite the unparalleled challenges of the pandemic,” said UCL Vice-Provost (Research, Innovation & Global Engagement) Professor David Price.

This follows a series of successes for UCL in terms of rising in university league tables for 2022. The university appeared in the top 10 of The Guardian’s best UK universities ranking and the QS World University Rankings, rising to 9th and 8th place, respectively. The 2022 QS Graduate Employability Ranking also placed UCL in the top 20 worldwide, 4th in Europe, 3rd in the UK, and 1st in London.

UCL is currently ranked 8th in the world by QS World University Rankings, 18th by THE, and 9th by The Guardian.
