Arts lecturers at Queen’s get paid the most

Arts lecturers make more money than their colleagues at any other faculty.

The Tab can reveal on average Queen’s lecturers are paid a salary of £38,000 to £40,000 with some pay gaps between departments.

The biggest difference in pay is between the Arts department and other Queen’s faculties.

As of April 2014, Arts, Humanities and Social Science lecturers earn the most with an average salary of £40,589.00.Medicine, Health and Life Sciences professors pocket an average of £38,445.00 annual salary.

Some of the lowest paid lecturers at Queen’s are from Engineering and Physical Sciences, earning on average £38,000.

Third year English student, Megan Kelly said of the pay gap: “I had no clue Arts lecturers were paid more and I don’t really understand why they would be paid more to be honest, especially in comparison with the likes of Medicine professors.

“But I do think what they do is still important.

“I have a favourite English professor called Jimmy and he’s been particularly helpful.

“He’s willing to go above and beyond his call so I think tutors like that deserve a higher pay.”
