Success for #SaveStMarys as proposed budget cuts dropped
They failed to close the ranch
Both St Mary’s and Stranmillis have beaten proposed £2 million cuts after a huge response to student protests.
Last month the Minister for Employment and Learning Stephen Farry proposed a £2 million cut to the fund which is awarded to and split between Belfast’s teaching colleges, St Mary’s and Stranmillis.

Farry’s decision was met with fierce opposition by St Mary’s students who protested to #savetheranch.
The proposal was today turned down by the NI Executive.

Jane McKee, a third year History and Primary Education student at St Mary’s says: “Common sense prevails thanks to the hard work of our President Donal McKinley, the entire student body and the community of West Belfast.”

Final year student Niall Kelly, from Glenravel, studying B.Ed Primary History called the decision: “Great news. It’s a bright future for both young hopeful teachers and aspiring jersey grabbers alike.”
