Breaking: Car overturned outside University Place
Car flipped over on Oxford Road after major collision yesterday morning
UPDATE: The driver of the overturned Lexus is still fighting for his life in hospital.
A car was completely overturned yesterday morning after a collision between two cars just outside Uni Place.

The huge collision between two cars left a maroon Lexus on its back. The other vehicle involved was a silver private hire taxi.
The 24-year-old male driver of the Lexus is being treated in Manchester Royal Infirmary – and his condition is said to be serious.
The taxi driver, a 48-year-old, is also suffering from fractured ribs.

And the accident, which took place around around 10.30am yesterday, left both passengers trapped inside their vehicles.
The driver of the overturned car was found unconscious in the wreckage while the cab driver was trapped by his steering wheel.

Luckily, fire fighters were able to cut them free:

One witness, who saw the whole incident, told The Tab:
“The maroon car was speeding towards Rusholme and the other was a grey taxi which got hit on its right side.
“The first car flipped and all of those took place around 10:30-10:45.
“A lot of people tried to remove the person from the red car but that person was stuck. Police cars came in first then the fire brigade and then the ambulance at the end.”

PC Pete Cunningham said:
“We are investigating the circumstances leading up to this collision and are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to call us as soon as possible.”

The area has been cleared and the stretch of Oxford Road between Brunswick Street and Booth Street East has now reopened.
