Revealed: The states with the smallest amount of student debt

Fingers crossed you’re on it

California, Arizona and Florida are among the best states in America for students hoping to graduate without too much debt.

According to financial aid researchers, if you study in those states, you’re likely to graduate with around $20,000 of debt – a substantial amount but still nearly $15,000 less than states like Pennsylvania, Connecticut and New Hampshire that are far worse value.

Experts at LendEDU, a site that examines college finance, has ranked states on the average debt that students graduated with in 2016.
