Researchers have figured out the majors where freshmen work harder than seniors

There are more than you’d think

Data analysts who surveyed thousands of students across the country have revealed the majors where freshmen work way harder than seniors.

Most types of freshman engineers are often more hardworking than their upperclassman counterparts – first years studying Materials Engineering, for instance, clock up nearly 21 hours per week compared to 16 hours for seniors.

Freshmen doing majors like PR and Advertising, Marketing, Finance, Journalism and Economics spend more time in a week preparing for class (studying, reading, writing, doing homework or lab work) than fourth years.

See where your major ranks below – the stats come from Indiana University’s NSSE, the national study of student engagement. As a comprehensive survey, they compiled answers from thousands of students, and passed their findings onto The Tab.

Of course, there are majors where seniors work harder than freshmen. The courses where upperclassmen put in longer hours than younger students include Arts, Architecture, Chemistry, Physics, Medicine, Dentistry and English. See the full run-down below.
