PornHub is officially doing more for safe sex education than any public school in America

Introducing the PornHub Sexual Health Center

Whatever you do, be cautious when Googling the phrase ‘PornHub sex ed.’ You could land on the site’s newly-launched editorial section on safe, pleasurable and consensual sex, or you could land on…something else.

On PornHub’s new platform for everything healthy sex-related, content by doctors, therapists and other assorted experts can all be found in one place to bring users articles, videos and advice.

The Sexual Health Center even has an entire section on consent, which means, officially, that PornHub is doing more to lower sex crime, STD and teen pregnancy rates than any public school in America. And if you think that sounds bizarre and backwards to you, welcome to 2017 — where the fuck have you been?

The sex ed landscape in America has always been, to phrase it scientifically, total shit. Outside of abstinence-only iterations, sex ed is virtually non-existent in the public school system and it only stands to get worse under Trump’s education pick Betty DeVos.

The nominee refused to nail down an answer on whether she’d uphold Title IX guidance on higher education sexual assault, and gave a pretty disgusting statement about it, stating that there are “a lot of conflicting ideas and opinions” on it. Yes, protocol for confidential reporting and a stance on combating rape is, we know, veeeery controversial.

Corey Price, Pornhub’s vice president, told Refinery 29 that it was a natural fit for the porn giant to foray into a positive sex message.

“As a leading provider of adult entertainment, we thought it important that we also offer a platform on which carefully sourced information about all aspects of sexuality be made available to our viewers,” Price said.

This isn’t too out-of-the-box, though. PornHub’s always been something of a millennial destination, more progressive and invested in social justice than you’d expect, y’know, a porn site to be.

They made headlines after lashing out against the revenge porn movement, hosting a form victims can fill out if they spot their private pictures or videos posted on the site against their permission as well as publicly condemning porn star James Deen after rape accusations against him surfaced. Oh, and earlier this year they launched an anti-domestic violence clothing line. NBD, just your friendly neighborhood porn site doing more for domestic violence victims than some law enforcement agencies. Casual.

Considering 92 billion PornHub videos were viewed last year, even a fraction of users stumbling across the Sexual Health Center would make a major impact in the way we think about safe sex. Hats off, PornHub. Or, like, pants off. Sorry.
