Here is what your star sign says about the kind of York student you are

Check your big three to get a broader sense of your zodiac personality

Whether you believe in astrology, find it comforting to explain some of your unique behaviours, or simply see it as a bit of fun, read below for info about your sun sign and what kind of York student you are. If you’re feeling extra, you can also apply these to your big three (sun, moon, and rising) to get a broader sense of your zodiac personality.

Aries (21 March-19 April)

To others you burn bright with passion, confidence and direction. You have decisive opinions and interests and are great at debating these with others. The downside to your fiery nature though is that you can accumulate a lot of pent-up energy and require an outlet to frequently exert it. If you don’t already partake in a society sport or have a hobby, I would recommend it, especially with your competitive tendencies!

Taurus (20 April-20 May)

You’re very resourceful, so do great in seminars even having read very little (we’re all very jealous). Try to remember that this advantage shouldn’t be a reason not to engage fully with your work though, even if you can get away with it. You also come off as very cool – which you are – and might be a mysterious coffee shop goer, sipping casually on a flat white in The Link. You’re easy to talk to, although you probably have a few extremely specific things that really tick you off. Due to your material interests you may spend a little too much on random shit that you love but may not need. Who can really blame you.

Gemini (21 May-21 June)

You’re a big ideas person. Your degree probably sparks a load of insights that you cannot always follow through to the end but that are really cool and unique. As a cerebral person, it’s important to not stay in your head all day. You can often be on a kind of different plane of existence to your housemates in one way or another, which is fine, but it’s important to bring yourself down to earth sometimes. Going from work to play, you are naturally social so you probably bloody love society night; you may also be known for taking it a little too far. One piece of general advice would be for you to make sure you build a bit of a routine to ground yourself. Going with the flow, which you do often, has its limits.

Cancer (22 June-22 July)

You love hanging out in your little nest of a room. You’ve probably made it really cute and cosy in there with a bunch of winter candles. This is not to say that you don’t enjoy going out and socialising. In fact, due to being a water sign, you have the capacity to feel deeply and care a lot about people. Like Gemini, you enjoy things that distract you, not just from thinking but from feeling too much! Studying is absolutely one of these things, along with staying active helps to avoid getting stuck in your head and heart. A piece of advice – try not to take things too personally. (Yes, this includes the feedback your tutor gave you for that essay you finished at 3am…)

Leo (23 July-22 August)

Like Cancer, you also care very deeply for people. You’re likely to have a big network of friends at Uni. You probably go to Courtyard and end up seeing so many that you know – and, being very probably one of the best dressed on campus, you’re prepared for it! You love giving special attention and receiving it too. On that note, you’re probably an incredible gift giver. Just make sure though that you’re not relying too much on others and that you’re giving yourself enough care. Running yourself a hot bath or cooking yourself a nice meal can go a very long way for you folks.

Virgo (23 August-22 September)

As Taurus does, you may take a little time to warm up to people and ideas. However, once you do, you stick to these people and become amazing company. You’re loyal to a fault! Once you become comfortable and engaged in a conversation, even if you’re particularly shy, nothing can stop you from skillfully pursuing a topic of interest. This is great in seminars for those of us sitting next to you who have completely blanked and trying to avoid eye contact with the tutor. Although you’re not an air sign, you do have that capacity to overthink and self-criticise, as well as mentally criticise others (especially new people). If this applies to you, try to keep this in check and have an open mind.

Libra (23 September-22 October)

You have a very charming manner, not unlike Pisces. Actually, you have an air about you so that even when you’re drowning in debt, have no food in the cupboard and are hanging out of your arse, you somehow still manage to look like you’ve got your shit together. You’re brilliant in groups, and are likely to be the one to get everyone’s mood up in the Flares queue when it’s two degrees outside. Go you. One piece of advice though – try to seek balance and variation in your day-to-day lifestyle. This is something you are known to crave at your core.

Scorpio (23 October-21 November)

You’re someone who’s okay with emotional discomfort and so you probably don’t struggle as much as others with procrastination. Lucky you. Due to your career-oriented nature, you also may spend a lot of (potentially too much) time in Fairhurst, and hats off to you, some of us don’t have that stamina. In terms of your social life, you’re not the centre of attention in a friend group but rather offer careful insights and develop close meaningful friendships one on one. You’re a feeler like your water sign cohort but aren’t as good as them at regularly expressing your emotions – try not to bottle up the stresses of student life!

Sagittarius (22 November-21 December)

The most visibly laid back of all the fire signs. You have a contagiously fun vibe whether you like spending your evenings in Salvos or on the sofa bingeing Netflix. You’re also very non-judgmental of the people in your life; speaking of whom, make sure you draw on them if and when you need them. Even though you value your independence, quality time with friends is really important. Your timeout time is equally vital – you put a lot of energy into things and sometimes experience burnout. Although you stereotypically don’t love being told what to do, take the initiative to recharge here and there.

Capricorn (22 December-19 January)

You’re probably the biggest planner of the zodiac. You don’t dive into projects or assignments but like to think things through for a while and create an elaborate plan. You’re the type to have set up a savings account when you were fourteen, or to go to the gym religiously. A sense of routine is important, but be careful not to get stuck in a rut. Spontaneity can be beautiful. Some see you as quite serious as a result but your immaculate sense of humour shines through with those closest to you. You also have a strong set of values that you use to guide a lot of your decisions, which might even make you a good society leader.

Aquarius (20 January-18 February)

Outwardly, you’re the chilliest of the air signs. Like Gemini, you’re a fan of a good time and are very adaptable when it comes to your daily routine. To some you seem too relaxed, perhaps even distant, but this is a misunderstanding; you just don’t wear all your thoughts or emotions on your sleeve. You might have a cool haircut, fashion sense, or manner that distinguishes you from the crowd. You would do great to channel your unique thinking patterns into joining an unconventional society, or even starting your own.

Pisces (19 February-20 March)

You’re all about going with the flow. Often labelled as ditsy or in your own world, your emotive qualities can mean that you can get slightly lost in ideas. Your fellow course-mates and friends admire you for this, especially since your mind works in such creative ways. Honestly, uni is a cycle of you starting your essay two days before the deadline and killing it regardless. If I were to give you any life tips, hone your imagination toward relevant interests of yours; you can achieve so much!
