The body of a man has been found on Little Moor in Jesmond

Police are currently treating the death as unexplained

The body of a man has been found on Little Moor, Jesmond.

A police cordon is in place, with officers remaining on the scene just off Highbury. A police tent is also on the field and tape remains across the entrance gate, Chronicle Live reports.

Police were called to the scene by the ambulance service following reports of concern for the man’s welfare just after midnight this morning.

The death is being treated as unexplained. Northumbria Police has launched a full investigation, although this remains at an early stage. The man’s next-of-kin have been informed.

Police Superintendent Sharon Chatterton said that officers are keeping an open mind about what has happened and has urged the public to avoid speculation.

She said: “I would also ask everyone to avoid any speculation – both online and in the wider community – that could jeopardise the investigation”.

Superintendent Chatterton also encouraged anyone who may have concerns or information which could assist the investigation to contact the police immediately or speak to an officer in the area.
