Attacker strangled Didsbury jogger with her headphones
He also repeatedly banged her head against a tree
A 25-year-old woman was attacked by a man who attempted to strangle her using the wire from her headphones when she was running in Didsbury.
The victim was running in Fog Lane Park at around 3pm on Sunday when she was attacked.
As she was running, she heard rustling in nearby bushes, so she went to investigate.
On looking in a bush, the male attacker knocked the 25-year-old to the ground and held an unknown object to the victim’s throat.
He then proceeded to repeatedly bang her head against a tree, before attempting to strangle her with the wire from her headphones..
The man is described as white, in his 30s, with cropped brown hair. He was wearing a grey coat.
The police have increased patrols in the area and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Detective Inspector Gareth Davies said: “This was a terrifying attack on a woman who had stopped to check that someone else wasn’t in danger.
“We are appealing for anyone who may have seen this man or may have any information about this attack to come forward.
“We are treating this incredibly seriously and we are determined to find this man to prevent this happening to someone else.
“We have extra patrols in the area and we would encourage anyone with any concerns or information to come and speak to police.”
