Man charged in connection with sexual assault after woman attacked under Cathays bridge

He appeared at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court today


A man has been arrested and charged in connection with a sexual assault on a woman in Cathays, Cardiff.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police told The Tab that Fawaz Alsamaou, 32, from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, has been charged with attempted rape and appeared at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court today (14th October 2024).

Detectives have been investigating the incident that occurred under the railway bridge close to Senghenydd Hall and Salisbury Road during the early hours Sunday, 12th May 2024.

The case was made public after featuring on the latest episode of BBC’s Crimewatch Live where detectives called for help with their investigation.

South Wales Police has thanked the media for sharing previous appeals for information.
